Rib-shaped Pork Patty TOTM

Post by RockyRaab » Wed Jun 25, 2014 3:57 pm

Having recovered (mostly) from a horrible three-week cold or flu, I went fishing again yesterday. The menu special at Cafe Kayak was a 2013-issue Rib-Shaped Pork Patty in BBQ sauce TOTM. To display the contents, I opened the pealable seal bag and shot this photo:

As you can see, this TOTM left out the usual packet of crackers in favor of pretzels, and also included an extra item in the form of Zapplesauce. For my trip, I elected to re-substitute a pack of crackers for the pretzels and also swapped a pack of lemon-lime drink powder for the cappuccino.

On the water, I heated the entree using the FRH and mixed the cold drink. The Zapplesauce was tasty and not as sweet as I had thought, considering it is "spiked" with extra sugar for energy. The pork patty was only vaguely "rib-shaped" and lacked the fake grill markings of a commercial McRib. The sauce was almost clear and sweet, not very smoky or tomato-y. I was glad I had taken along some crackers, because I crumbled up one of them to soak up the sauce. You can see the patty and sauce here:

Until next time, here's smilin' at ya from Cafe Kayak

I believe you are wearing my favorite shirt.
One of those ones from Columbia Outdoors, with a whole bunch of pockets, and the rollup and button flap on the sleeves?
I think I have six various versions of that shirt...

Yup, a Columbia shirt. I have half a dozen, too. Great outdoors shirts.

Cafe Kayak does accept reservations, but seating is for only one. And the customer is also the cook, waiter, and dishwasher, LOL!

I think there is some sort of secret relationship between the MRE Rib Shaped Patty and the McDonald's McRib . . .

Used to be secret. After today's 10th Circuit Court ruling, they can marry here in Utah!

I tried that Rib Shaped patty as a shore meal this spring. I thought it had the texture and flavor of a much thicker version of Banquet TV Dinner Rib. Indeed looked like the Mc Rib minus the McDonald's BBQ sauce (thank god)
Ate it cold on a slice of MRE Bread, no condiments. It was pretty good
