Yellow Pack HDR - Year 2000 DoP
Hello everyone, I'm back with an expensive and hard to acquire Yellow Pack HDR.
Everyone know why they switched from Yellow to Salmon color (well anyone who has read Kman's section on HDR's on the site... check it out!) - and I think they only made this Yellow HDR for maybe a year or two.
I bought this one from a guy who flew a C-17 (if I'm not mistaken that is the aircraft) in Afghanistan and he dropped these off to the Afghani villagers. He kept one and finally decided to sell it - and I bought it from him.
Here is a full presentation of this ration.
Everything was still fresh and delicious! Details ahead!

Last ones!
Re: Yellow Pack HDR - Year 2000 DoP
I was always under the assumption that no Trans-Fat containing ingredients were supposed to be used on the HDR's for some reason? It is not listed on the Nutritional content, however under ingredients we see, "partially hydrogenated" the Trans-Fat key word, if you will. Since this was packaged before 2006 I see why it does not list Trans-Fat in the nutritional content, I wonder if the new HDR's are Trans-Fat Free? I know the Halal and Kosher rations issued to troops are.

Thanks very much for sacrificing that rat for a full review! Definitely on my holy-grail list to snag a yellow one some day

Good point, Cavguy! I wonder if post-2006 production HDR's have trans-fats?
They were in these fruit bars from this Yellow HDR, enough to keep them moist and preserved! They were tasty little apple chunks!
You're welcome Rulerak! I hope noone is too upset I opened this thing! It was pretty expensive.
I still have the Beans and Rice Entree from this HDR to eat and review!
I also have 4 Salmon colored HDR's from 2003 that I am posting soon. The Fruit Pastries in them are amazing.

I concurr. Too bad you had to sacrifice the ration. They are very rare and difficult to find.Ruleryak wrote:Thanks very much for sacrificing that rat for a full review! Definitely on my holy-grail list to snag a yellow one some day
It would have been easier to find a more comon salmon colored one instead.
Still nice review.

Thankyou and I agree to some extent, Bypah. But, the thing is - items like the ''Bean Salad'' and those Apple Fruit bars have never been photographed before (to my knowledge) and are not in the Salmon colored ones. I will do a preview on one of my Salmon sets to show you the difference. The entrees, for instance only contain about 380 calories opposed to the Yellow HDR's 580-590.
They did change the menu and replaced items and the size of the 2 main entrees from 580 calories average on the Yellow HDR's down to 380 on the Salmon colored HDR's.
Here are some quick example pics of an early 2003 Salmon HDR.
