MCW Beef Stroganoff

Post by housil » Fri Aug 02, 2013 1:33 pm

Lucky me I could get my hands on a couple of cases MCW, the first ones I got.

I was too curious so I had to open a pouch to see what´s inside

The entree of a RCW compared to a MCW
Image
they are equal

Image

590 kcal of food  but almost "low fat" (3,7g/100kcal)
Image
That´s almost two MRE entrees

After soaking 10min

For better display, poured on a soup plate

Note the amount of food, that´s almost 2 servings.

I like the Mountain House freeze dried staff for it´s great taste, so this dish was great as expected with just a little lack of salt.
So bad that there is no salt in the accessory packet anymore, but now the Tabasco in a pouch.

So that´s what a "starch jelly candy" means

Thanks for the review housil!

I would venture to guess the brown entree is from an Long range ration? (as they are identical to mcw except for the color of the bag.)

Did you taste the sports bar and starch candies?

Awesome pics and review housil! I recall in the 1980s my national guard unit was shipped several cases of the cold weather rations by mistake, and as I recall each ration had two main white pouches. The MCW appears to have consolidated everything into one main pouch.

Thank you for the flowers :D

You are right, the "Ration Cold Weather" were two, taped together white pouches

Image

The "Meal Cold Weather" is, as NNF mentioned before, "just" a Long Range Patrol ration in white color.

Lunch time means another eating time :D

So I opened that candy and the black candy shouted "eat me, eat me" to me
Image
I expected a Coke gum taste but it was licorice. YUCK
The other were a nice, soft, jelly candy with fruit taste.

The 200kcal sports bar

(forgot to take a picture  )

A sticky, rubber like bar

with sugar/chocolate crystals and pieces of nuts inside. Very rich chocolate flavour. I ate only half of it (due to my diet!)
