UGR Coffee Cake

Friend of a friend was able to find some URGs for me to try out.

First on the list: Coffee Cake with Cinnamon Crumb

18 Servings, 1 ounce shy of 3 pounds is a lot of cake

First challenge was to figure out how old this was, thanks to another thread and mreheater72 it seems to be 2002 production.

135th day of 2002

Since this is cake i did not want to heat the tray, so i moved on to opening the can.

This guy works just fine

But i used this one today since i had it

The can opened easily and there was a pleasant smell, not much cinnamon, more of a heavy pound cake like smell

The topping is still in the right place for the most part

Sliced in to 18 pieces as per the directions

Tasting:
The cake was very tasty, if you have had canned cake before you know what to expect.

Flavor wise, a medium strength vanilla flavor with light hints of cinnamon
Texture is a soft moist dense cake, much like pound cake

There was a slight after taste i think was like carnation instant breakfast

I decided to spice it up a little

Overall this was great 10 year old cake! It wont last long here

I remember that one too pretty good tasting! Been trying to find one of those online for a few but no luck. When I was on active duty I took 3 trays of the Coffee Cake home with me, ate one then could not bring myself to eat the others so I sold them to some surplus store! Wish I had kept them now...

Name_not_found, thank you very much for that detailed and informative review with great photos ! Yes, I would also vote for 2002 production!

I also like that metal tray cakes! Their shelf-life is very good (I ate some 12 year old cake and it was still fine) and the taste is typical "US military ration" (like good old MCI cakes). What a pity that they stopped producing them !

The additional pudding is great for sure. I will try that, too !

But I'm trying to shed some pounds and I can't eatthat whole tray since my other half doesn't like them.
But at least they are good for trade....
