1945 "Food Container" Ration (Unopened)

Post by steve1989 » Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:56 pm

I bought this off of Ebay back in February and I just took some pictures of it and decided to post em'

"Food Container" Contents: 12 Biscuit Ration (Yummy! I Can't wait! ... heheh just kiddin')
2 Chocolate Ration (Oh boy!)
12 Milk Chocolate Ration (More Chocolate..?)

It says in bold italic : This is concentrated food & should be eaten slowly.

Processed by W. Clark Limited
Montreal, Canada

Then under the tin reads: H2445 (5 being underline leading me to think that's the year produced...is it 1945..? Maybe it's 1955 or 65'? I'm not sure.
Look at that old-school spam can key!

Here are pictures of the unopened tin... if anyone wants me to open it and show the contents let me know - I just need 1 excuse to crack this baby open! I might even try and eat some of it if it's not looking super disgusting! heheh

Steve,

Another great find!

Believe this is a Canadian emergency ration, possibly life boat or downed crew?

Don't know how it will taste. The crackers might be edible. Might!

As for the other 'concentrated' stuff I wouldn't try it. That junk was hardly edible then and they put that warning about consuming it slowly over a period of time there for a reason. Like the old WWII-era D-ration bars. They weren't a nice big hunk of yummy chocolate! If you were able to wolf one of those down quickly you paid for it. Some who ate it slowly still paid.

While I would love to see the contents and hear about your dining experiences I won't be the one to say "crack it open!" I'll leave that up to another member.

Maybe toss it over to MREJap? He's MREInfo's version of 'Mikey'. May be before your time but as the commercial always said "He'll eat it! He'll eat anything!"

Good advice guys! I have decided to keep it unopened unless I end up havin' a few people say they wanna see the contents. I would be happy to open it - I won't eat any though unless it is somehow edible still.

I would trade it if someone is interested too - but I can't imagine anyone wanting it! hehe

Sorry I couldn't help it..! I saw another one on Ebay so I took the liberties of opening mine because I now know more of them exist... so noone else has to open theirs! :D

After I opened it I gave it the sniff test and it immediately failed! So rancid and fruity that it actually smelled like it fermented or something! Ewww! Not edible at all! Didn't even do a taste test (Which is rare I ALWAYS at least taste the stuff I open... and I couldn't even do THAT with these).

Here's the pics.
