Do you want to see some Spaghetti packed 1955?

Post by mreheater72 » Sat Oct 09, 2010 3:22 pm

Hi guys,

today I opened a can of "GROUND MEAT & SPAGHETTI WITH TOMATO SAUCE" packed September 12 1955 by OTOE FOOD PRODUCTS CO. out of an "FOOD PACKET, IN-FLIGHT INDIVIDUAL IF-7", with the "abrasive paper method" (the smell after opening the can was terrible, also the spaghetti were not really visible  . 55 years after preparing they find their end in the "john", but before eating ). The can was in really good condition, no rust or any bulging, but there was a little swelling, so I "saved" it before exploding :) .

Here are some pics (be glad, that photos do not smell  ):

Do I want to see some Spaghetti packed in 1955?? Oh heck yes, I do!! :-)

Thanks for not making us wait to see those pictures. Those are some great pics and it's really cool to see how this stuff looks after 55 years. Holy moly...that's a long time.

look close at the edge of the can, rust have penetrated the lid and wall of the can.
thats a weak spot on a can, other times the acid level from the food itself
can break the can to. specialy tomato, lemon, vinegard and so on.

but now to the pictures!!! :D cool but im glad im not smelling that
at least my wife   she said:you (me) and your german friends must be
made of the same stuff since we like old rations and army stuff

nice pictures as usual :D :D

cheers ken

What a great find and archeological job!

Maybe they want to disply it beside "Ötzi"? (European joke)

I think I would have waited till summer to see if it attracted bugs.. or repelled them. Who knows, one spoonful of this and you could become immune to - well - everything!
