The PIMIENTO can has some small holes, so I can imagine how it smelled when you opened the whole lid

Pimiento is simply a redchili flavored, spicy cheesespread (atleast in the older dutch rations)
Here they were made by the royal ERU, they still make it as "Goudkuipje Sambal".
As all know, dutch rations have a long tradition of "civil" items in the rations.. like mentos, stimorol gum, civil matches, civil meat and tuna spread, civil jelly.. the only thing "military" are the hot drinks (soup, coffee, tea) the dextrose and the (british) brown biscuits.



Taste's very good (when it's still good.. offcourse)
It is quite spicy, but in a nice way, you do not nesceserally have to drink because it's thát spicy..
a 100gram cup costs about €0,85 to €1,00.. my favourite..

And norge, simply tell your wife she should be thankfull that she was born in norway, and not in france..
I went on vacation in the Elsaß (L'Alsace) for a few years in a row.. and we had a house next to a "Munster" cheese farm....

Trust me, MCI cheese spread is the least of her worries if she would have experienced that..

Hello Norge! Came across this post and wanted to add a little something. The "date" stamped in the tin isn't "61 60". If you look really close and I do mean close you will see a barely noticeable bulge at the base of the "1" on the right indicating the number '1" is upside down. So the stamp actually reads "90 19"!

This tin was most like a post-Vietnam tin or maybe from one of the "B1A/ B2A/ B3A" series of meals. The MCI's in Vietnam used reflective tins of this size, sealed in the B-Unit tins. Hence painting them wasn't necessary since they wouldn't be seen until the B-Unit was opened. These olive drab tins were commonly found in the "A" series of B-Units since they were packed separately. I believe these would have first appeared around '72 when the cigarettes were deleted. But so many cases of MCI's would have still been in circulation that the '72 series probably never made it "in-country".

Great pics too! Thank God "smell-o-vision" and "scratch-n-sniff" computer screens don't exist....

LogDayFreshHots, I guess you are right, it is "9019", not "6160". The date code "9019" translated in my opinion means: 19. January 1979!
