The Tailored Operational Training Meal (TOTM) is almost like a Diet Meal Ready To Eat or "MRE Lite" if you would. The US Military issues TOTM rations to soldiers in training situations where they don't have easy access to the mess hall but also don't have need for a meal kit as substantial as a MRE. These food packs contain almost everything a standard MRE does minus proper side and dessert items. They also lack a few of the extras contained within a regular MRE, like toilet paper and matches. Even though it is toned down a little the TOTM still makes for a filling ration meal and I suppose they save the American taxpayers a few dollars over a MRE.
