These old rations need to be opened... so they don't end up like these bad boys here. What a shame, and it wasn't cheap. Lessons learned and here's the finishing product... rust rot and regret.

oh wow, that's damned heartbreaking

i've opened some Ks like that, where there was nothing salvageable but to open not one but two cases like that?

at least you got it all over with at once, like ripping off a bandaid. here's hoping that '58 case in the background made you feel a little better...

Holy crap, that is painful. Still, some items in there salvageable as patterns and such that can be pulled apart and laid flat without worrying about ruining anything given the condition of that lot. The master case is good though on both, if a bit scuffed. Sorry they turned out that way.

Gonna save all I can with em. It was $1650 total. Oops! Coulda been worse.

I'll be setting stuff aside... not sure where. My garage... man it stinks. Got my deadlifts in there... gotta clean this stuff up. Might decorate the back porch with old bio slop. Could scare off anyone lookin to solicit. Maybe turn the cans into cactus pots. Always wanted to turn ration containers into plant pots for some bizarre interiorscape design.
But then again maybe that's not so hot of an idea for rusty cans.

Too bad about the chewing gum. Oof..

You know, that old chewing gum can be quite the treat. Not this time though.
