1998 LRP Menu #5 Lasagna with meat

Post by Amelieee1 » Thu Apr 08, 2021 7:21 am

Hi all, I had the main from my 1998 LRP Lasagna for lunch today, did a small text review and just copying it over from facebook, I have wanted one of these for a long time and I have to say, worth the wait.

I opened this one up last night to take out the main, and noticed that over the original printing of the ingredients and cooking instructions, there was a brown sticker containing the same info. Wasnt sure what the deal with that was, just checked the back and peeled the sticker back a tad, was greeted with the word "CHICKEN", so yeah they just ran outta bags. Still super cool.

I ate the Lasagna from the 1998 Food Packet, Long Range Patrol - Menu #5 Lasagna with meat. I only ate the lasagna as its a large main, and I want to keep the rest of the LRP as is, the bran flake bar only came in the 1998 LRP (to my knowledge) and only 3 of the menus, so for its rarity I wont be trying it out. That and Peanut butter with crackers isnt my thing.

As for the lasagna its amazing. Very good meaty taste. Little chunks of tomato and onion that rehydrated well, the onion was a little crunchy - Just like a normal onion. There werent any visible chunks of cheese but it was quite cheesy, I think there was 3 or 4 cheeses in it. (Mozzerella product, Mozerella cheese, Parmesan, Romao and then "cheeses")

The chunks of pasta weren't all rehydrated 100%, but they were all nice enough to eat - That one might be on me.
I thought there was just going to be a pasty meat sauce but there is actually a few generously sized chunks of beef in a light tomato bolognese sauce. It tasted amazing. I cleaned it in like 15 minutes because its just so nice.

Best freeze dried item ive ever eaten, probably in my top 5 rations. Its extremely filling, wholesome and just overall an amazing dish. - who doesnt like lasagna? Only thing I would consider a downside is it tastes slightly of the plastic bag, but you get that with all these older US RCW and LRP rats.

Overall I rate this 10/10, I loved it. Hopefully I can get some modern Mountain house lasagna.
Sorry for the wordy review, pictures speak a thousand words so have some pictures:
