I love it when I crack open a 40 year-old can of salty crackers and cocoa. And they aren't even stale!

True gourmet

And I gotta say, the old MCI Cocoa Beverage Powder is absolutely DIVINE! So creamy and smooth, nice cocoa flavor, and pairs perfectly with the salty crackers.

I agree man, it really was a great formula and seems to have quite the shelf life! The 1974-80 B-2 Units were the best for that sweet & salty combo right there.

100% agree!
These were the best units we got as kids from the GIs (in the 80s) and I miss them still today! Salt crackers and cocoa...

sure do wish I could track some ot those down. Seems pre brown bag is quite expensive. I suppose I'm lucky brown bags are so cheap.

These were the type of rations I was first exposed to in basic training in '83. They sure have come a long way. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! :D

Well the crackers were arguably better then. Don't get me started on "wheat snack bread"

The modern issue Cocoa doesn't hold a candle to old stuff. So in some ways they've gone a long way ... downhill. Somebody could probably setup a nice little cottage industry selling B units in cans, just like they did back then today, using the same recipes. I'd buy 'em, instead of playing "Ration Roulette" with the NOS.
