How was it?

Re: 2012 LRP Menu No. 7 beef stew
This ration was one I had high hopes for, so my Easter Sunday lunch seemed a good time to review it.
The bag contained:
-accessory pack LRP (with tabasco, why cant ALL rations have tabasco?)
-spoon
-Beef Stew
-beverage powder grape
-lemon poppy seed cake
-toasted corn kernels
-oatmeal cookie, chocolate flavored
So I made up the drink... man these US powdered drinks are weird. They taste like the smell of cleaning products, but not in an entirely bad way but i think it's these that often give me a touch of heartburn after a US ration. The grape one is VERY purple and extremely artificial as you'd expect but it does have a strong taste which would be good if you were sick of drinking plain water.
The beef stew reconstituted nicely and having had 2 LRPs and some MCWS before this I'm already convinced that these freeze dried mains are far better than the MRE retort pouch ones. I could taste the beef (a little chewy but nothing I wouldn't have expected) and the vegetables. I quickly added all the tabasco though, and that really set it off for me. Loved that main meal. Plenty of it too.
On to the lemon poppy seed cake, surprisingly moist and very dense, with a strong but not overpowering lemon taste. Not bad
Toasted corn kernels next, I love these. I had never seen them before I started trying out US rations. I wish they were easily available here. They'd be one of my favorite snacks if they were.
Oatmeal Cookie, chocolate flavored.... Very "cooking chocolate" flavour, chocolate from the US always seems like this but it was still pleasant. Nice crunchy cookie underneath the chocolate.
Made up the coffee then in a small cup with the sachet of sugar and no creamer. Typical instant coffee, it's fine, does the job.
After all that my opinion is that this is a good menu to get. I definitely prefer these LRP rations to standard MRES.
I also feel well fed thanks to the big portion of pretty tasty stew so that will keep me going for the day nicely.
