1977 LRP Ration menu 8

Post by mtime7 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:49 pm

1977 Long Range Patrol Ration Menu 8 Chicken with Rice
Contents: Chicken With Rice freeze dried (113g), Accessory Packet Menu 8 (standard stuff with fudge bar)(NO GUM)
Going to try the main menu, cocoa beverage powder, and fudge bar..
Added hot water to main menu as instructed, smell is great, also bag that it comes in is very usable, sits on counter like big bowl..Cocoa smells good, dissolved fine...
Waited 6 minutes and put contents of chicken and rice in bowl, for better pics although the bag would have been great in the field... Flavor excellant, you could not get a canned soup in the store that tastes better or has a more meat and rice to liquid..Cocoa tasted like a c rat cocoa as expected..Desert, Fudge Bar is in excellant condition to my surprise, and it tastes just like I remember old c rat fudge bars tasted   All in all a great meal

Excellent review....It answered my questions if these rations were edible or not. Now to bid on ebay....

I doubt it, most rations, if not all freeze dried, can't go bad because of the lack of air or how they were sealed. A lot of times packages were vaccum sealed for freshness. This is how the moutain house #10 cans were packaged.
