So, working the show this weekend meant no video recording but was still able to take pictures of my lunch choices to do a written review.

today's gourmet choice was a Menu 16, Pork Rib circa 2014. It was still in great shape, and make a great all day meal for the show, minus one component....

Entree, side, FRH, spoon, snack bread, peanut butter, strawberry jelly, and accessory packet with SF Raspberry drink, caffeinated mints, and BBQ sauce.

The mints are nice, not as much of the bitter aftertaste like the caffeinated gum, pleasant minty flavor, about as strong as a tic-tac. But the caffeine was a great boost. Dissolved well, hard enough to keep their shape but still dissolve easily.

Raspberry Drink

Fake flavor, but nice balance of fruity and sweet. not too bad.

saline
my secret......ssshhh..

Saline flushes, it turns out, are perfect for FRH's....just the right size, and the saline makes the heater take off like a rocket....2 seconds after I squirted it in, it was hot enough to burn me.

Pork Rib, and Santa Fe Rice

Rib is a standard processed patty, but with some good flavors provided.

Rice still had some sauciness to it, added a hint of creamy flavor on the tongue. Nice blending, not mushy as the rice usually is.

Combined

Best thing to do with these two is to smush up the pork rib and dump it, juices and all, in with the rice and mix it up. Makes a great, filling meal when combined.
The BBQ sauce was thicker than I thought it would be, but added some nice spice to the meal.

The Orange Beverage Base Powder.

Dissolved well, had a definate orangy, sour taste, but also the chemical background that just screamed "Artificial." Not bad, definately a good break from plain water....

Did not get to the PB and Jelly or the snack bread on this round, but both are pretty standard fare. I'll save it for a light snack at work one day.

All in all, a good meal, very filling and easy to make a one pouch dinner. Definately one of the better menus.

I can't view any of the pics. The forums have a built in feature you can use to upload pictures directly. When posting, just click the Attachments button and upload them that way. It's a lot more reliable too. 3rd party hosts are shady, and they've deleted lots of pictures from older posts here.

elandil - Cool... you're 2nd Amendment practitioner... you're a great American... question: are you finding less and less MRE/Rations at gun shows?

To be exact, i'm the local recruiting coordinator for GeorgiaCarry.org. I set up at all the local shows to discuss gun rights and answer questions.

As for rations, there has been a real steady decline. A few years ago it was easy to find a table or two of surplus with some cases on the floor, or a survivalist table with a mix of Rations and FD foods, now its getting rarer to find. Altho, with this push on things with NK, i'm expecting to maybe see it swing back around...

elandil - Its an honor meeting such a great American... prior to retirement, had many memberships with 2nd Amendment organizations including FloridaCarry.org... but in retirement, kept but a few groups... I do help with donations when possible.

The NK situation has also caused the sale of Potassium Iodide Tablets to fly off the shelves... our local Army-Navy store was out of both when I visited yesterday... although a scary situation, I concentrate my efforts for hurricane season.

Hey Elandil, I am happy to see you transferred the photos off of photo bucket or whatever it was - now we can all see them! :) Awesome job on this one man.

This is one of those reviews one can learn from. The saline was something I'd never thought about - perfect for an FRH. I always add salt to mine, but this is even more efficient. I am going to buy one of those saline wound wash cans at wal mart tonight and keep it on deck for the FRH's. Multi use enough to where I think it will activate a good 30+ FRH's over the can's life span.
I haven't had a standard Pork Rib MRE in about a year - I don't think it's in the newest menus anymore (or am I wrong?) - such a staple classic menu for many folks.

And to you and alohakid - finding MRE's at gun shows has certainly gotten more rare. Last 2 gun shows I attended there were none - last one that I saw rations at was Doswell MRE Meetup last year with Bob's stand and then another guy who had MRE's. A friend of mine found a Food Packet Assault (1950 DoP) at a gun show last year for only $20 - I reviewed it and got an awesome video outta the thing. So collectible gems can still be found too but I can imagine they're few & far in between.

I know that's right. There's a real good prep store right down from where I work, (used to be a lot closer, which was real dangerous... Lol) that was actually on the news the other nite. People are beginning to start panic buying again, which will make the next little while interesting.
