US MRE 2014 Menu# 4 Spaghetti With Beef And Sauce

It's been a while since I've done a written review here, and work has been so busy lately I haven't had time to film the next section of my Slovenian ration, so doing this to feel productive. Haha

First of all I must say that I'm getting horribly tired of Tropical Punch beverage base powder.... it's been in 3 out of the first 4 MRE's in this case, and I really don't like it.

Was not happy to see raisins in the ration either... but they've begun to grow on me. I've found that eating rations has made me learn to be less particular and eat things that I normally wouldn't like or that I've told myself I don't like. These raisins were great, just the right flavour and texture.

The snack bread in this MRE was slightly different than usual, being Wholegrain and from a different company. It looked great and was a slightly different shape than usual. Sadly it was VERY dry... and with peanut butter alone it was even worse. The strawberry jam helped a little bit, and as usual it was delicious.

My other experience with Spaghetti and Meat Sauce in a ration was freeze-dried in a LRP and I must say that this version in a retort pouch was vastly superior. While the portion wasn't nearly as big, the flavour was fantastic. Very savoury, with a nice herb infused tomato sauce. Even the chunks of meat were larger and had a much better flavour and consistency.

For dessert we have Sour Skittles. I was very excited to see these here, but at some point these Skittles must have melted somewhat. Many were stuck together, were incredibly sticky and their shells had gotten much harder. So all in all they were disappointing.

This was actually a pretty good ration, even though my comments here would seem to be more negative than positive. This is one of those situations where the whole sum is greater than the individual parts.

Thanks for stopping by, have a good one!

Great review, thx for sharing! I agree with you 100%, overall the US MRE drinks are terrible compared to most other rations. I think if they used real sugar instead of that horrible aspartame sweetener, they'd be a lot better...
it is what it is....

Yeah what's up with that anyway?
It's not like the US MREs are lacking in the sugar department anyway with candy and god knows what other super sweet stuff is in there. Cakes.. The first strike bars...
But then for whatever reason, they choose to go artificial on the beverage base drinks.
Boggles the mind.

They need to swallow their pride and just use UK ORP drink mixes. Hahaha
