Hello! A few weeks ago, I ordered some 2016 MREs from eBay and decided to dig into them. Since this is a new menu for the 2016 year, I decided to try it first. This is Menu 12, Elbow Macaroni In Tomato Sauce. Let's open it up!
First off, I noticed that despite it being a vegetarian meal, it wasn't imprinted on the bag.
Here's everything laid out
This looks like a really good menu so far! You can never go wrong with an MRE that has candy in it. But as you can most likely see, we have:
-TFF Wheat Snack Bread
-Entree
-Sour Skittles
-Hot Sauce
-Accessory Packet with Coffee
-Nut Raisin Mix
-Chocolate Protein Drink Powder
-Cheese Spread
-US MRE Spoon
-Hot beverage bag
-FRH
-Cardboard sleeve (you can't see it - I forgot to include it in the picture)
And for those who are curious, let's look at what's in the accessory packet
It contains:
-Genial Instant Coffee (I've never seen this brand before)
-Creamer
-Toilet Paper
-Matches
-Gum
-Moist Towelette
-Iodized Salt
-Sugar
Sweet! Let's look at the entirety of the meal.
I can confidently say that this is likely one of the best, if not the best MRE I've ever had. The entree had a nice, sweet and tangy tomato flavor and the noodles were of perfect consistency. The smell alone was amazing. The wheat snack bread was the freshest I've ever tasted. It was still a bit moist and you could taste the wheat and the yeast in the bread. Amazing! The cheese spread was pretty good, although I would've preffered cheese spread with jalapenos. The nut raisin mix was a great addition, ensuring that you get a good balance of protein combined with the dairy shake. The dairy shake had a good balance between dark chocolate and standard milk chocolate. It was so perfect! The Skittles added a perfect taste for those with a sweet tooth, like myself. In the end, I was able to wash it all down with some coffee which made the experience well worth it.
I'm sure even most meat eaters would enjoy this ration. If you have a sweet tooth, then I think you will really enjoy this one! Like I said, this is easily the best MRE I've had thus far! If you're ever shopping around for MREs at a surplus store or something, I recommend that you pick this one up!
