2015 #7 Beef Brisket and Gravy

Post by sdrozza » Sun Jan 08, 2017 10:55 am

I apologise for the lack of pictures, but I was not either overly disappointed or over surprised by the quality of the product. The entrée itself was possibly the low point of the meal, with the brisket absolutely bursting with artificial smoking (way too much for my liking), and the separate side of garlic mashed potatoes was overflavoured too. The flameless ration heater worked well as always, though. The sundries mostly, however, saved the meal. The snack bread it came with tasted fresh, quite similar to a Warburtons flatbread you would find here in the UK. On the other had, the PB and J was not to my taste - a bit watery but overly sweet if that's possible? The drink too (a mixture of grape and fruit flavours I do believe) was over powering. The thing that really did it for me though was the dessert. The oatmeal cookie was phenominal, and too the cappuccino with irish cream (coming from a guy who likes his coffee weak mind).

Overall, not outstanding, but if I was out on the field and hungry too, you could certainly do worse.

Different palates yield different opinions on foods. That's why it's valuable to have multiple reviewers for any given meal. One person's "overflavored" ma be another's "just right" or even "too bland." No criticism should be implied for any of the three opinions; it's just the way people's tastes are wired.

Well said! I have to say though that the smoky flavour was offensive for my palate, but my dad seemed to enjoy it.

I kind of found that entree to be middle-of-the-road. It wasn't bad, but certainly not great either. I found it to be more of a beef stew-like meal vs. what I've come to know as brisket, especially after having the Canadian IMP smoked meat, which was more along the lines of what brisket is like when I've had it.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it! :)
