MRE Review Vegetarian Cheese Tortellini Thanks Elandil

Post by Daley » Sun Jul 17, 2016 1:33 pm

Hey guys, Daley back here with another video. Today I have a review of the Cheese Tortellini MRE, given to me by Elandil so big thanks to him.

Lets get started and talk about the meal overall. So while I personally didn't like some of the components, i have to say that they all kinda blended together which was nice. The apple-cinnamon goes well with the mango applesauce, the crackers go well with the cheese tortellini and with the peanut-butter. I was surprised how well they all kinda fit. Please keep in mind if you watch the video I do not personally enjoy this kind of food but i try to keep an open mind.

Mango-Peach Applesauce: This was my first time trying applesauce in an MRE and it was surprisingly good. Lots of flavor, little chunks on the fruit, it was very pleasant to eat. The one downer on this was it didn't smell very good. It almost had a baby food like odor. The taste was there though and it was easily eaten from the package or out on a tray.

Crackers/Peanut Butter: These as always were pretty good, I could tell these were on their last legs though as far as not being stale so im glad i had them now. The peanut butter was a little thick, but maybe I didn't knead it as much as i should have, who knows. The point here is you cant go wrong with crackers and peanut butter, or crackers in general as they fit with most meals.

Orange Beverage: Not much to say here, tasted good was easy to make and mixed well. Tasted just like orange Powerade or Gatorade.

Raspberry Beverage: NOW THIS, i didn't like. It was overly strong, very tart and didn't leave a great taste in my mouth. My 2nd tester loved it so maybe its a personal preference thing but to me it tasted funny and wasn't for me. It was easy to make but required 20oz of water.

First-Strike Bar(Apple-Cinnamon): I have to say I was hoping for a different flavor this time. This bar was a bit oily and softer than the last one so not sure what was going on there. It did taste fine and blended well with the applesauce that was in this MRE. I gotta say First-Strike bars are a great idea and they taste better then other things on the civilian market.

Cheese Tortellini: This entree was VERY bland. It was hard to taste much of anything. The noodles were a bit firm but not terrible. The saving grace here was in the accessory pack. It contained some great seasoning that livened up the meal. It came out as almost a solid brick and it was very clumpy. Not the best thing i've had but not the worst. It also isnt as filling as you think it might be.

M&M's: Yummy chocolate

Accessory Pack: Wet Nap, Raspberry Beverage Drink, Seasoning Blend (Salt Free), Toilet Paper, Salt, Cinnamon Gum

Yes, the Cheese Tortellini is the blandest of them all. But bland appeals to a lot of people. The salt-free seasoning packet (which I suspect is Mrs Dash) does save it.

Thanks for the review, I have one of these stored away and never had one before. I wouldn't have expected this on eto be so bland.
Good luck and may your rations stay unspoiled!

Yea i mean the season packet saved the day. I'm not sure the storage conditions of it, but it was just really clumpy and stuck together. It wasn't inedible, there are just better choices out there.

Nice review!

Just tried mine the other day. It certainly wasn't bad, but it was definitely bland. Added a little Cholula hot sauce and some fresh grated parmesan cheese. I gobbled it up after that.

Yea, it was really a decent one if you have some sauce or seasonings.
