CRO CSO insisted on some artsy photos

Ratatoo's MRE pork ribs from 2008. traveled from his basement to RCGusto and then to me far to deep Europe lol, to be consumed on Croatian-Slovenian border

Making beverages - I had my bottle dipped into the water for like 5min and it made water inside cold as ice. We liked the blue one, grape flavor it had real grape smell and tasted great after all that hiking, like grape mentos. And it's enough sweet/strong one can use more then 12 oz of water if needed. The exotic mix, the red one was a bit strange. Tasted like toothpaste, chewing gum and something from hospital like syrup for caughing. Weak at first with very strange aftertaste.

Using FRH. We had a problem with FHR from 2008 menu since he didn't wanted to activate at all, but I had one just in case FHR in my ruck. We heated clam chowder and pork wib with one FRH and on second one I put chili mac and the other side tortillas from the other menue, along with both cheese, jalapenos and normal one. Everything was warm and good.

Clam chowder from 2008, still good. Clams even had sand in them, a little sour but not too bad. Maybe could use small amount of black pepper.

Pork rib with cheese and barbecue sauce. This was CRO CSO choosing and he said it was amazing, tasted like real barbecue and everything. He really like this one also he said he woud give 3 chili mac's for one pork rib. Just perfect in this mix with cheese and sauce in his opinion, there is no sandwich in Mc'Donald that's better then this.

Chili mac like always near me was boosted with cheese and jalapenos - I've already reviewed this menu here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6106

Chili mac with cheese and crackers - great as always.

Nut raisin mix, a little bit of everything. Good snack for having in a pocket.

Marble pound cake. CRO CSO liked it a lot, we both agreed it's great thing to have in MRE for a dessert.

Great review, very detailed descriptions and I like different perspective

The background, the area looks beautiful. Also the shelter half with interesting camouflage pattern.
Who did that belong to in past years ? Is it a Warsaw Pact item or from a NATO army such as Italy?
The pork ribs look very good from your photo, I had them on a camping trip in 2013 and enjoyed them. The tortillas are a great MRE item. Chili mac is also a classic camping meal, you cannot go wrong, winter or summer it is a winner.

Now for the Clam Chowder.
To me as an American that enjoys traditional meals and cooking. Clam chowder or any shellfish soup It always seemed very strange selection for the U.S. MRE meals. Clam Chowder is most often a regional winter time lunch or evening meal. Many American viewed clams with a certain degree of caution at one time as they can spoil quickly. Calm Chowder is served at seafood restaurants on the Atlantic coast or made at home with fresh clams. My father would make big pots of it with Black pepper as the main spice.
The main two types are white New England style as you have with MRE and Red Tomato based Manhattan style.
Just my opinion but what I have observed in American clam chowder is either you love it or you don't want it. I like it myself but could not imagine eating out of a foil pouch in hot weather or with out Oyster Crackers.
As I said this is only one person's opinion. I am glad it did not kill you

Yes, it's Italian...called 1929 Telo Mimetico. It was used until 1990. in other color variations.

Great review, and great pics! That's a great menu, and that's my favorite way to eat it as well, mixed with the BBQ sauce and the cheese spread. Good stuff!

Norton is right about the clam chowder, it really seems that people either love it or hate it. I think it's a big regional thing as well. In Montana, seafood isn't as popular, but when we are anywhere on the coast where they have fresh seafood, it's always more popular.
