MRE Shakes....

The one MRE component guarrantee'd to induce a gag reaction in me: they never seem to mix properly and the horror of a lumpy mouthful of artificially flavoured rehydrated milk is just appalling.
No matter how much water I add and how much shaking I do, these nasties just never seem to fulfill their promise.
Shame...especially when your hoping for poundcake and get this crap instead.
Dear US DOD: a milkshake IS NOT A DESSERT!. It's a DRINK, an accompanyment to a meal, not a meal in itself. And no, Slimfast doesn't count either, no matter what the ads may say.

I found the shakes are much better used for frosting said poundcakes, see my post under "tips and tricks"

I've found the dairy shake to work well, though I have'nt tryed one from TVS yet. Taste good, just like a milkshake from Hardee's if you follow the instructions to the"T". Thats the hard part. I gave my late great Uncle an MRE with a heater back in the early "90's, and explained to him that one needs to follow the instructions to the "T", and he said, welp, that means 90% of the population of WV won't be able to do this. The Canadian pudding must be what your talking about. Banana and Coconut does not work. Those Canadian IMP pudding packs do not work, and have big chunks no matter what you do.

Nope, i've tried 3-4 times following the exact instructions on the pack and I still got a gritty/lumpy fluid rather than a nice smooth shake.
Maybe hard UK water doesn't work well in US milkshake powder?

I like the MRE dairy shakes. I use very cold water and a spoon to stir it, and then shake it. That gets rid of the big clumps. I like the taste of a few small powder clumps in the shake.

I did the chocolate shake from TVS last night. It did poorly, compared to the Jianas brand. No clumps, but lots of little hard particles. Still edible, anyhow. I gave it a D, compared with a B for Jianas Choc. and Strawberry shakes.

I had two chocolate dairy shakes. Though they don't taste like milkshakes at all I liked them.
demoncase: Here's a tip for you. Pour exactly six fl. oz. of water into the bag and shake for a minute or two. Then rub the edges of the bag with your fingers, because that's were the powder is stuck, and shake again.

Thanks for the tip.
My version goes thus.
1. Open MRE.
2. Remove 'Shake sachet
3. Hand to friend in trade for Poundcake.

I'd also always prefer a nice almond poppyseed pound cake over a diary shake.
