Since things seem to be very very slow around here these days, I thought I would whet your appetites [so to speak] with a couple of photos of the US-MRE halal meal I picked up a few months ago, and that I plan on eating this weekend on a camping trip over in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

It looks like a fair assortment of chow. I can't wait to try out the chocolate mocha pudding. I am also taking along a civvy Indian retort of saag paneer [spinach with cheese curds] and a dollar store retort pack of cooked rice to pad out the meal. I'll post photos of the chow down, and a review when I get back next week.

I had one very similar to that and the lamb stew was quite good. A little blander than I'd like, but so are all MRE meals. That reminds me, I never did fix the pudding; must be in my box of leftovers somewhere...

RR- my pudding appears to be pre-mixed in a retort pouch like the berry cobblers.

As for bland: I made up a straw of "Indian" spices and one of curry. They ought to jumpstart it. Plus, I know the saag has a fine punch of heat already.
I am truly looking forward to this meal. It ought to be really nice on a really cold evening like tomorrow is promising.

So far this was hands down my favorite ration. Just make sure you eat it fresh - they're only meant to last up to one year because of the Halal production requirements and they definitely will start tasting off by that point.

Well, I survived the hammock hang in 23°weather over in NH... and I did eat the Halal Lamb Jalfrazy MRE as promised. [my rig is at the far right of the pano, behind the huge tarp of my buddy, SkyPainter]
This was easily the tastiest ration I have tried so far. Nice sized pieces of meat, all of the beans, carrots, onions etc. were recognizably what they were. The flavor really was outstanding. If you have any kind of taste for Indian cuisine, this one is not going to disappoint you. There was a nice kick of heat, and the seasoning level was done so well that I didn't even break into my straws full of Indian spices and curry powder. I had it together with the civvy pack of saag paneer over rice and it was more than satisfying and filling. I am really sad that this one is gone from my collection, and I'd be glad if anybody has access to the US halal meals and can provide me with some more.
I also really enjoyed the chocolate mocha pudding, also halal, from the ration. Premade, creamy, delicious and now, sadly gone! [no photo. It was getting too dark, and the pudding was too dark too]
All in all, it was a great meal, but it certainly didn't stop me from digging in to a whole bunch of the other chow as it just kept coming off the fire, the grills and the Dutch ovens. [it would be too far off topic to show the photos... but OMG did we EAT!]
The one other thing that I can also tell you is that a 2006 poptart is not worth saving... Take the "r" out of pastry... Yeah... pasty. I spit it out after the first bite. Just go buy a new package.
I actually hate 'em anyways, but figured I would "take one for the Gipper" and try it out for youse guys sake.
I did not get into the rest of the snacks that came in the halal ration package [the poptart was not part of the halal rat], simply because we had so much food along because of the number of people attending.

Here are a couple of photos of what we call "AlexandiaLand". It is all the way at the backend of 5 miles of dirt road, in a steep cove at the base of Firescrew and Cardigan Mountains.

Great review rattattoo! I'm curious what Halal menus are offered in the cold weather rations or if there are any.
