Took advantage of the good weather and a gift MRE from my cousin serving in the USMC. I just snaged the cornbread stuffing and coffee for my river trip as I wanted the traditonal beef stew meal. The cornbread stuffing had a very good mess hall U.S. army in garrison tatse.(not a insult rather compliment) I mixed it with some 2012 beef stew. Man was the stew good it had big chunks of beef and nice potatoes. It seemed less Dinty Moore with a higher quality grade of beef. When the Cornbread stuffing was nixed I had a great filling meal. I topped it off with cold fruit cocktail and the Iced tea. This tea was perfect as it is still hot here in Virginia in early September
Breakfast was sausage with gravy on MRE biscut with jalapeno cheese packet for extra flavor. I have reviewed this entree before so I will not go inot details. Just say it is an outstanding morning meal for cold weather. Not the best for hot sumer monings
Cooked with Russian Army kettle and Swedish stove. The stainless steel cup is a gift from my Friend Prado67. This cup is Russian Issue and kept the Iced Tea cold and Coffee. Yet did not burn my lips. The paint on the Russian kettle did not blacken and stayed their particular Olive color. As for trip the weather was perfect just a little hot. Clear sky at night and you could see the stars. The river was low but it ran clear so you could see fish and river plants just like a fish tank. This is why I like miltary rations and gear. It lends itself to my needs. Simple easy to use and prepare.

Re: Cornbread stuffing and trip review
Thank you for the nice pictures and the review. Corn bread stuff is my favorite side! I see you use a German border police camo poncho (?).
Re: Cornbread stuffing and trip review
Yes this is my emergency rain gear. I also use it to cover my mesh tent's top. The camoflauge pattern seems to minic our summer colors well, when I camp I like to keep a low profile. Now as for the poncho in the rain I have used it in in a surprise freezing rain event on Virginia's mount Rodgers (Tall for Virginia) I The set up was perfect for hiking as it covered the rucksack. The poncho has no hood, but that is OK I did not care.housil wrote:. Corn bread stuff is my favorite side! I see you use a German border police camo poncho (?).

What shape has it?Norton wrote: The poncho has no hood, but that is OK I did not care.
Is it rectangular, it´s a poncho (with missing hood).
Is it like a tent half? It´s a tent half...
Is it triangular? It´s an old(er) tent half like we had in WW2 with same pattern
Re: Cornbread stuffing and trip review
It is a rectangle made of plastic or some type of plastic. the tag says BUND with a date I think it is 1985.housil wrote:What shape has itNorton wrote: The poncho has no hood, but that is OK I did not care.
I own 4 as they are great rain gear and good to protect motocycles or tents
When the COLD WAR ended

Re: Cornbread stuffing and trip review
Norton, your awesome Camping Trip MRE Reviews are back and this one was fantastic as usual!
I love the pictures, your tent setup is perfect - modest and easy to pack & set-up. Nifty kitchen setup too - great mess kit gear and I love everything about that photo and the overall setting, really. The Russian Thermo mug is a nice upgrade to mess kit - looks like it can take a beating too!
Thank you for sharing your experience - that Beef Stew & Cornbread Stuffing combo is a nice way for me to finally use the 3 or 4 Cornbread Stuffings in my pantry.
