1988 Corned Beef Hash review

This was from my personnel stash. It has been stored in the original carton inside a dark climate controlled area.( Not frozen)

I opened up the plastic pouch and found everything was intact
Corned Beef Hash TS 8oz
Fruit FD
Oatmeal Cookie Bar
Jelly
Crackers
Cocoa
Bev Base
Spoon
Acc Pkt a

The corned beef smelled 100% fresh. Just like Hormel or Libby's canned corned beef.
Took a small bite and found the taste was totally normal. I compared it to a fresh can of Hormel taste was the same. Very salty, and the potatoes were still firm. Opened the oatmeal block and it seemed like a lifeboat ration. Solid dense and with no smell at all. Took a bite and found it still tasted good. I do not remember this oatmeal bar, but I doubt it was popular. It was very hard to eat.
Like a block of granite, but the taste was good, sort of maple.
The freeze dried fruit was still tightly sealed. The Strawberry's had not crumbled and were still in a perfect block. The smell was very strong. Just like freeze dried strawberry bits in American Cereal boxes or a fresh jar of Jam. Took a bite and they were still delicious. They were VERY popular in the 1980's. We would eat them dry. The crackers were still crisp and snapped when broken in two. Salty and no funny after taste.
The grape Jelly looked suspect, so I only tried a tiny taste. It reminded me of 'old Honey' very gritty and sugary.
Made coffee with German Esbit Red box and G.I. canteen stove cube. Added coca, creamer and sugar, tasted fresh.
Grape beverage base was still good.

The wet napkin was still wet. I decided to heat up the hash browns, with the Esbit and see how they tasted. I ended up eating the entire meal, including the hard as a rock gum.
I did not get indigestion , but it was filling as I ate everything except the Jelly .

I for one would be all in favor bringing back the corn beef hash as a breakfast entrée. Together with something like those freeze-dried strawberries and the new biscuit, that actually tastes like an "American" biscuit, it would make a nice meal.

I agree, with the modern biscuit, this meal would be a good breakfast entree in any season or a cold weather dinner.
It's simple American/Canadian (British?) beef and potato comfort food (minus the oatmeal granite like block)
But not something I would want for lunch or dinner in a extra hot climate.
