I was working by the river one pleasant day this week and decided to try my YUGO mess kit* with a U.S. MRE.
( will review this mess kit latter*)
Real workday, so I had limited time to cook, eat and clean up.
So a U.S.Meatless burrito looked like a good choice. I was sure this came from a 2006 case but cannot find this on the menu .
If anybody can date this entree let me know
Cooked it via boil in the bag method, it took two Esbit heat tabs
Anyway I opened it and thought it had almost no scent.
No gravy or sauce. The flavor was about the same as a frozen burrito from PATIO. Beans still solid, rice had a mild Mexican flavor.
My initial thoughts was this would make a good side with Chili or some type of spicy beans. The portion size was enough for a quick working lunch. If you fried this in some hot oil on the U.S. mess kit pan it would make a decent breakfast with the Salsa pouch.

Interesting. I've never heard of that entree. The date would have been on the box end flap. If you still have that, it's a four-digit code.

I used to eat this meal alot! I forgot about it somehow though...

I've got to admit, frying one up does sound like a great way to go.
Have never considered that, but I do carry oil in a rinsed out shampoo-sample bottle as part of my Kick-It-Up Kit whenever I head out... so...

They started in 1998 as #16 "Bean and Rice Burrito", changed in 1999 to #12 and continued until 2003. Only in 2003 it was "Black Bean and Rice Burrito" so I would assume it was a 2003 one.

Looks more like a glorified tamale to me ....

I was sooo disappointed when this entree was removed from the menus.I loved it.It was perfect with picante sauce.. I bought 3 of this menu.If I had known that this menu would not be available later...

I remember this entree, it wasn't too bad. Not bad at all considering its shelf-stable. A little bland, but I agree, frying some in some oil would certainly be a game changer. Yum!
