2014 MRE's - Case B

Hello my Friends,

It's been a long time since posting, maybe too long,
But I am glad to see the site is still the no.1 source of info for rations anywhere online or offline.

Anyway's, today a friend in the armed forces brought me a present.

MRE's! :D

It has been quite a while since last having these, my last batch were 2008-09 when I posted about them back in 2009 , lately my "survival and hiking" stock has been a mix of homemade dehydrated foods and freeze dried products with the odd RCIR and British 24h rations thrown in from old stock, and also because rations are now very popular and so quite expensive I have not had incentive to buy them. :?

Anyways for prosperity sake and the fact I haven't had these rations for a long time I thought I would share the contents of a case B 2014 MRE's,

These are from January 2014 [01/2014] so are very fresh.

But as we know sometimes these end of line / new line rations do not show the full new menu that is available as the manufacturers tend to use old and reserve stock in them.

So, some pictures of the stock.

The dated case

The TTI marker

Extra protection sleeve now seems to encompass the whole of the MRE's in the box (this extra cardboard wraps around the whole inner case and MRE packs).

And the MRE's out of the box

Over the next few weeks I hope to do a break down and review of these MRE's while I am out hiking / camping.

Regard's,
MrF

I note that Menu 20 and 21 have definitely changed from the 2013 list. I also note that there is STILL no compiled list of the 2014 menus posted anywhere on the Army's site(s). The changes for 2015 should be announced any time now.

RockyRaab, I was just digging around today for the 2014 menus. I can't find the official, nicely organized menus anywhere but I could find the Assembly Contract Requirements (ACR) for the 2014 MREs here:

https://www.troopsupport.dla.mil/subs/s ... s/m034.pdf

You can find the menus starting on page 9 - but they're not as specific about some of the exact fruits, candies, desserts, etc.

All the ACR's (well, all four of them from previous years) can be found here:

Operational Ration Specifications
https://www.troopsupport.dla.mil/subs/s ... rocure.asp

MRE ACRs
https://www.troopsupport.dla.mil/subs/s ... rs/mre.asp

And the improvements for 2015 are also up here:

If they are going to drop sausage and cream gravy in 2015, I sure hope they replace it with a genuine breakfast item and not another sugar bomb. Many folks won't miss he chicken w/tomato and feta, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for the links, good sir, but only the last one worked.

I agree, the real breakfast items like Sausage and Gravy or Hash Browns are good entrees. I would hate to see them dropped .

I like the Pork Sausage with Gravy as well. One neat little trick I have tried. Heat up the entree and the cheese. Crush the crackers while they are still in the package. Once the entree and the cheese are heated. Dump the crushed crackers into the entree. Pour the cheese on top. Stir it up and enjoy! I really wish there were more than two breakfast menus. At least two more, I wouldn't mind eating breakfast for lunch or supper.

While it's not exactly government issue, a BigBox solution for those of us here stateside... Toss in a "toaster pastry", an MRE cinnamon bun, or a granola breakfast bar, brew up your cowboy coffee... And you're eating large.
WallyWorld will jack you about four dollars for the Oberto, but the Hormel Complete breakfast, which claims to contain two full eggs, was under two bucks.
I found the "SlimJim" brand bacon jerky down at my local Fell-Off-A-Truck-Stop for two dollars... and it's a quarter ounce more of B.A.C.O.N!

Aaaaaand as we all know, Bacon makes anything taste better.

Just a final FYI: were you aware that you can split an MRE wheat bread in two, smear on a full tube of the ubiquitous squeeze peanut butter, and stuff that sucker full of this bacon?? ... if you have never had a peanut butter bacon sandwich, you have truly missed out on one of the greatest outdoor meals there is. Just trust me on this one. It is worth doing.
