Taste Test: 1992 MAPLE NUT CAKE

Okay, before I begin, I had brought this along with some other items in a lot of MRE stuff, most of it being rancid besides the beverage mixes. If BAKED SNACK CRACKERS can't hold up for 6 years, then how can a MAPLE NUT CAKE last 21?
Well, I looked at the box, and decided to open it up. Inside was a old green pouch that contained the gold.
Well, I guess this tops the 11 year old Skittles, this is the oldest thing I have ever eaten.

The "nuts" had gone brown, and I figured, "Well, I'm in for a treat." I ate a small piece, and was absolutely surprised to find it tasting like maple. I cannot believe it, 21 year old food, tastes like it was baked yesterday. Now I know why mreheater72 loves these, they can sustain a lot. It's ashame they got rid of these things, they taste great and they could survive a war.
Next mission: getting a brown bag MRE. I saw one at a flea market a few years ago and I didn't bother buying it.

ElevatorFan73, thank you for your MAPLE NUT CAKE review with nice photos

! BTW yours was a very late one, 1993 they stopped producing them

.
The cake looks perfect and I´m glad that you like it

. Now you have to try the CHERRY, the PINEAPPLE, the ORANGE, the CHOCOLATE and the FRUIT ones. I´m sure, you will also "love" them

.
Here you can see a recipe called LZ LAYER CAKES, it is delicious

, but also caloric

.

What you can also do with each NUT CAKE is to heat it

, so the taste is more intensive

.
So long mreheater72

I'm so glad you did a review of your Maple Nut Cake, Elevatorfan! Awesome! & Thanks for taking pics!
I've had one back in 2010 that was sadly no good, the oil in the nuts went rancid..
But I had one in 2012 that was amazing, and I know exactly the kindof neat experience you had eating that thing!

New guy here... I have a line on some early-mid 90s "Brown Bag" MREs from my Dad, who's had them in his boat for "emergency" purposes since then. I said I'd trade him fresh ones from this century/decade. I have no intentions of actually eating them myself (I'm not that adventurous of an eater, sometimes I'm leery to eat them past the inspection date) but will likely offer them up here. Stay tuned.
