2013 Mediterranean Chicken Menu #5

Post by RockyRaab » Thu Oct 17, 2013 5:25 pm

Made my weekly fishing trip and MRE luncheon. Next up was a Menu #5, Chicken with Tomato and Feta Cheese. Happily, this unit was packed on my birthday, Feb 18! Probably by somebody named Sara N Dipity. Anyhow, the bag contained:

Chicken entree
Dried Cranberries
Cheese spread
Vegetable crackers
First Strike bar
M&Ms
Carbo beverage powder
Acc Pack A, FRH, and Bev Bag

I had the crackers and cheese while the entree heated. This was my first taste of vegetable crackers, and the whole-wheat flavor was a nice change.

Online reviews are highly polarized on the Chicken with Tomato and Feta entree. Some can't stand it and some rank it the best of all. I hit somewhere in the center, I'm afraid. There was a definite preservative note among the oregano and cheese flavors. The chicken was an actual breast filet, not a chunk of pressed chicken paste. The sauce contained chunks of tomato, bits of feta cheese and a dark green leafy vegetable I suspect was spinach or escarole. I probably should have added some hot sauce, as I'm a pepperhead, but had the whole entree plain. I managed to get a photo of it precariously balanced on my knees in my kayak. Here's the entree. Note the real meat texture:

I made up some coffee to go with, as it was 29°F on the water this morning. Believe me, a hot meal tasted great -- and isn't that the whole point of MREs?

RockyRaab, thanks for your nice review and photo :D .

It is pleasant that they use "real" meat for that entrée :) . Pressed meat is in my opinion a little bit unappetizing.

Until now I have not eaten the "Chicken Tomato Feta", (I´m not sure whether it will be my taste :? ), but your photo makes appetite :) .

RockyRaab, thank you for your photo that shows you while you are fishing :D . If I see right, you use are a fishing rod to catch predators. I also like fishing, but I prefer to hunt for non-predatory fish, e. g. carps or roach. Have you ever tried to catch fish with MRE components (no joke!)? I never did, but just an idea: It is certainly possible to catch carps with bait made out of "Mashed Potatoes" or "Tortillas"! Pikes may bite if you use "Tuna" :) ! Or an empty pouch inverted (aluminium foil) used as wobbler :) ?

Yes, I fish for predator fish only. Carp fight very well, but few people here fish for them.

The only mouth that MRE items go into is my own!
