I been reading this forum quite a long time now and decided to do my first review!

So, Chili with beans

Ok, let`s start!
First Crackers with hint of a cheesespread.

Crackers was good. Dry and crumbly, not too salty.

Cheesespread was separated slightly but tasted good.

Cornbread was moist and quite good, not too sweet.

Texture was superb! Amazing foods nowdays!


Next main n tree.....


Very nice, chili was just right. Beans were still quite snappy.


Next desserts!

Toaster pastry? Inside i found this:



Kellog`s Pop tarts, frosted brown sugar cinnamon.


Very sweet, has some kind icing on top. Inside is brown sugar and cinnamon filling.

Commercial version:

Last strawberry shake. Tasted littlebit like molten
ice-cream.


Should have few ice cubes...

I also like the CHILI WITH BEANS, if I see right you ate it cold, warm they are much better .

Never have seen before the commercial POP TART in an MRE !

I like the matches cardboard in the new A-Packs, they loook a little bit as those ones of early MCIs !

Eating was done cold for review purposes only....

Pretty much all of the MREs are better hot or at least warm. It un-congeals fats and oils, helps emulsify sauces and all that jazz. The cheese spreads, peanut butters (plain, chunky and chocolate!) are all much better after being thoroughly kneaded. The separation you mentioned for the cheese is just due to time. Unless you get them within a few weeks of original production there's going to be some or even complete separation of the contents of the packets. When you work them for a minute or so it mixes the oils and whatnot back in and it comes out much more palatable. Even the poptart tastes better hot Thanks for the review and welcome to the site!

Ah yes the old "knead pouch thoroughly before opening." That's one thing I recall from the MREs, especially the older ones----for some reason it seemed much more critical with the older ones. Does anyone recall an MRE or other ration component pouch which you had to knead in order to break a capsule in the pouch to mix the contents before opening and consuming? I don't think it was in the MCIs because that stuff was mostly all canned, but I recall something about it in some rations, could even have been kitchen stuff. I hate getting old, it becomes a race to see which goes first, hair or memory!

The only thing I can think of when you mentioned breaking a capsule is chem-lights...

Thanks for imput, dirtbag. Now that I think more about it, something comes to mind about breaking the capsule to release oil into the pouched mixture to blend it well before opening it. But as I said, my memory is not what it was and this could have been for making bread in a mess hall kitchen for all I know.
