Hello all
last week Ive tasted the first time MRE of the 2004 series.
The worst kind of sweets I ever tasted were the "Cinnamon Imperials".
I was very disappointed about that new item.
They are like toilet cleanser or somethin else but no sweetfeelin.
the other sweets I know at the moment also arent high runners:
I hate charms and tootsie roll
sktittles are ok but not that great thing
Chewing gum (white&green) are not good they lost there flavour so fast (and I ate them too many years...)
M&Ms are good
But at the moment there is no candy/sweet which is the great thing I really love.
I loved the Brownie chocolate coverd, the jelly bar and the Mars bar but the army removed them with the dark MREs.
also I really miss the good old candys the army had with the C-ration.
especialy the chocolate of the B1 (Coconut, vanilla fudge, chocolate fudge)
and the B3 chocolate in silver foil with caramel/nut pieces inside.
What do you think ? which are your favorites ? Some more sweets I forgot to wrote down ?

What I would really like to see added to the MRE is an oatmeal block intended to be eaten like a granola bar or crumbled into hot water to make a cup of hot instant oats. Oh, and while we are at it a larger ration of coffee to make a full canteen cups worth. Since I am on a role put smokes back in the field rations too. Cigarette and cup of coffee... breakfast of the gods!

Tootsie Rolls....Yeah, not good at all: no discerable flavour and a strange plastic texture like silicone putty.
However they do have an alternate use as a crude thermometer for camping/field work:
Toostie Roll shatters when bitten= -10oC or below
Tootsie Roll behaves like epoxy putty and pulls out fillings= 0oC
Tootsie Roll edible but takes 30 minutes to soften by chewing= 10oC
Tootise Roll malleable with fingers and chewable= 20oC
Tootsie Roll has consistency of cheese spread= 30oC
Since you get 2 you can repeat the experiment
