Beef Brisket - Menu 7 - 2010

Thought I'd do another review of the Beef Brisket, after all, you can't have too many reviews of MREs.
I've wanted to try this one out for quite some time!

This bag is hidding a lot of goodness...
I noticed that the bag was quite bulky compared to other MREs, and for good reason!

Look at all of this!
I couldn't believe how much good stuff was in here. If I had this out in the wilds, I would have quite a few snacks to have through-out the day.
Beef Brisket
BBQ Sauce
Biscuit
Tootsie Rolls
Cheese / Crackers
Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies
Cocoa Mix
Accessory pack with Iced Tea and Butter Buds

So, I decided to have a meal of the beef, biscuit, cookies, and iced tea. I think I'll save the cheese & crackers and tootsie rolls for a little later.

A nice lunch...
Here is a nice close-up of the beef brisket and biscuit.

I tried the beef by itself at first and it was good... A bit smokey. There were some large pieces of beef as well as some smaller shredded pieces... I mixed in the BBQ sauce and that kicked it up a bit.

The biscuit was actually pretty good. It is somewhat dense, but not as much as WSB. I think it is much much better than WSB (which I'm not a fan of). I didn't use the Butter Buds. I broke up pieces of the biscuit and dunked them into the beef. There is a lot of "sauce" here. The biscuit is really good for sopping up the extra!

All in all, this meal ranks as one of my favorites. As I mentioned before, I'm quite pleased with all of the extra snacks that helps to extend this past one meal!

I guess the butter buds are for the biscuit? I'd expect them for a starchier entree, myself. That beef looks pretty good.

I had them once before too. I thought I could pimp a beef stew with it but all I got was a tasteless, plain liquid.

The Butter Buds are great. I have had this entree before and was really looking forward to the Butter Buds and they didn't disappoint. The meal ranks as one of my favorite too.

Thanks for the review, i like this entree also, although i don't use the extra sauce.

Sometimes I save the butter buds for mashed potatoes and the biscuit for the sausage and gravy breakfast

I like the butter buds too, but in the MRE (DoP 2011) I had, there are no more inside!
Also there is no more Tabasco Hot Sauce bottled inside, they made it now in pouches! I want the bottles back!

Maybe they solved the leaking bottles problem that way?

Never had that problem - b.t.w. with newer rations - but I remember, that I`d older ones which has been empty!
Sure, thats the reason - I thought these pouches are cheaper than glass bottles!

I haven't seen the pouches yet but wondering if it is due to leaking, lighter (weight) and holds more? Just a guess.
