44 years old MCI Applesauce

Hi guys,

some weeks ago I bought a vintage can of MCI (MEAL, COMBAT, INDIVDUAL) Applesauce at eBay as collectible (I have never seen that "design" before). I do not know the exact date of pack, but due to the sellers description of the can I guess it is about 1968. The condition of the can is very good, no dents or rust , there is only a tiny hole in the lid . To conserve that nice condition I decided to open the can to discharge the contents. See the following photos, but WARNING , they are not really appetizing...

I opened the bottom lid of the can, the APPLESAUCE looks like tar , but the smell of apples was still there

I had a can of Ham and Eggs that I did the same thing too..I think I scrubbed my hands almost raw making sure they were clean.. I think yours looked worse than mine tho..

I agree. It seems like something like this should just seem gross, but it's actually VERY interesting to see what the applesauce looks like after all these years. It's a little like opening up a bit of history! Thanks mreheater!
