Hi guys,

today for dessert after dinner I tried some COOKIE BAR, CHOCOLATE COVERED out of an early dark brown MRE :D . I´m not quite sure about DoP, but I guess it has to be about 1988. The reason for that is, that until about 1986 the COOKIES, CHOCOLATE COVERED were round in shape. Also the name of the manufacturer changed I guess 1989 from STERLING BAKERY to STERLING FOODS.

Here some pictures:

The COOKIE BAR out of the wrapper, good smell and glossy appearance :D , front side, even my fingerprint is visible

The taste was perfect :D :D :D , really fine, although the COOKIE BAR was about 20 years old 8) .

In comparison to the BROWNIE, CHOCOLATE COVERED (I tried two of those in past, both were not yet edible) in that COOKIE BAR are no nuts that can go rancid. That I guess is the reason for the perfect condition :D .

So long mreheater72

I just love those things... They were always a favorite, especially when eating them with a cup of MRE cocoa.

I think I ate the last one in my posession about a year ago...

Well,

I'll give my taste test of a chocolate covered oatmeal cookie bar except mine is in a white RCW package and dated sometime in 2000 or 1990. I thought these had gone by the wayside and become non-existant. I found a supplier that carried these and for fun, bought a case.

What can I say, it just like the one pictured above and looked, smelled, and tasted like the bars I had in the older dark brown MRE's long time ago.

The only thing is if these were packed in 1990, they sure did a good job and still held up. But I'm wondering if these were a 2000 issue?
