MRE cheese and EPa crackers

Post by Treesuit » Fri Jun 18, 2010 10:41 pm

Hey all, things have been kind of slow around here with reviews and dicussions so I thought I'd post a food review. I don't think anybody has tried this but "what the hell"

I was bored one Saturday and I had some EPa crackers that I received from Housil that had been sitting in the cupboard so I was kind of hungry and I decided to give these crackers a try. I didn't have any cheese spread so I tried the MRE stuff. These crackers are dubbed "tank sheets" I think by some of the other members from Germany and other parts of the EU. Before I tried them I thought they were going be hard and crumby and have no flavour.

Boy was I wrong! These are simply the best kind of ration crackers I have to date. More so than the MRE kind. The crackers had a lighter, less crumbly taste to them not to mention I detected a super faint hint of sweetness. They were not salty at all. I tried a regular MRE cheese spread and that lent a saltiness taste to them. I put small drops on the crackers but soon found out that I needed more cheese spread to finish everything off. So I grabbed a Jalepeno spread and that was just enough to finish off the rest of the crackers.

After all that all I needed was something to drink. I really didn't need to have dinner later on as I was pretty full after eating those crackers.

My recommendation: If you looking for some exceptional variety and long lasting crackers that are not salty, nor cumble in your hands if you touch them (MRE's), and actually fill you up then this is really nice.

"Die Panzerplattens.... "
They are awesome. I got some from Olli and beleive me they are better than the MRE crackers ( and I'm nuts about those!! ).
I had them with some EPa cheese.
Now that you say that I have some RCIR's crackers i might do a review one of these days....
Nice review Brian.

I´m happy you liked them :D

Right - they are nicknamed "tank sheet´s" or "armour sheet´s" (Panzerplatten) all over here as they are more hard to bite, but that´s why they name is "hard cracker" (Hartkeks).

They are Italien made and are a little bit "sweet".

Before 1999, every EPa had two packages of them for continental breakfast with jam, cheese, pate etc. on it.
As you figured out, they are "rich" as they made with lot´s of butter. The disadvantage of them is, if the package is damaged ("punched"), air comes in and spoil them after ~ 5years or earlier:

They are now available in a civilian version, not vacuumed:

Vacuum is an old way to prevent food from spoiling, the civil ones are packed in a protected atmosphere aswell (probably CO² gas or heat treated air) .. the advantage of vacuum packing is that you notice if something is spoiled.
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.
