Review: 2005 menu #8 beef patty

Post by MreKampr » Mon Jan 16, 2006 10:56 pm

I just picked up 4-cases of 2005 mres..made last september
exp. date 08/08
this one looked interesting so i decided to review it

I Do Not Have a digital cam so this review will not be as good as kmans
I will try to be more descriptive to give you a better idea
This case comes from wornick..date of mf is 5277
About Sept of 2005

This is the 1st full mre meal that i have tried
I prepared it the same way as soldiers in the field might do

Contents:
1- outer brown bag..no date stamp
1- beef patty in cardboard box--2.8 oz
1- mexican style macaroni in cardboard box--5 oz
1- Cheese n Bacon spread pouch
1- BBq Sauce spread pouch
2- wheat snack breads
1- nacho cheeze pretzels
1- beef snack strip--beef jerky
1- long brown spoon
1- hot beverage pouch
1- condiment pack--
iced tea/lemon flavored
moist towelette
tiny bottle tobasco sauce
chewing gum,salt,matches,tp

Pulled The Pouches from the cardboard boxes
I Noticed that the main entree(beef Patty) is only a little over 1/8 pound
--2.3 oz as most other entrees are 1/2 pound--8 oz
Inserted them into the heater..added the water
Damm..That Thing Is QUICK..Gets Hot as hell right now
Throw it into the cardboard box..squeezed in the bbq n cheese pouches

Looking at what lay before me i decided to make a hamburger
After heating the 2-main pouches and cheese, bbq sauce
I Sandwiched the beef patty between the the 2 wheat snack breads
using the bbq sauce.

What to do with the cheese??
After tasting the mex mac n cheese i added half of the cheese spread
to the macaroni and the other half to the hamburger
the mac still needed something..so i added half the tobasco to it
that did the trick

the macaroni when fortified with the cheese n hot sauce is quite good
the hamburger could benefit from some mayo, mustard, pickles, ect

the frh heater is too small to make the tea hot using the hot bev. bag
the nacho cheese pretzels are tasty
the beef jerky is bulls..tastes ok

Overall rating:
fair

IMHO:
dump the pretzels n beef jerkey
put in a sweet snack or fruit
dump the tea
replace it with a dairy shake or other drink
add mustard/mayo/ect in small packs
Possibly add a second frh

Well thats my first full mre meal :)

Congrats on your first full meal, MreKampr. That Beef Patty MRE sure is cheese heaven isn't it? I mean, could they add anything more with cheese in there? Let's see....they have macaroni and CHEESE, CHEESE spread, and nacho CHEESE pretzels. Wouldn't have killed them to throw in a little peanut butter to round it out, would it? :-)
