CHERRY NUT CAKE Taste Test DATE OF PACK 1983

Post by mreheater72 » Fri Apr 23, 2010 2:05 pm

Hi guys,

today I opened a MRE CHERRY NUT CAKE with DATE OF PACK 1983. The outer cardboard was unfortunately missing, but the date code of the inner pouch said 3174, so it was packed 23 June 1983, nearly 27 years old when opened!

Some photos:

Here the folded pouch, the cardboard that time still had a square shape:

Pouch front side with date code 3174:

Pouch rear side:

That time the pouches were still glued into the cardboard, here the you can see some leftover of glue:

The six following pictures show a cake in perfect shape and appearance, nearly as baked yesterday :D, I didn´t expected that great condition :o :

The taste was awesome, no difference between my memories as I ate many of those a long time ago: Moist and juice and very tasty, representative NUT CAKE :D :D !!!

Nice! I have some late '80s vintage MREs in the basement. Need to crack them open!

I have to say that still looks like it edible and fresh. I always tell my friends that pound cake in a pouch will never rot.

Amazing it last so long and is still edible. (assuming you are still with us after eating it. :D ) The cherry nutcake was one of my favorites. The smell reminded me of Christmas fruitcakes.

The cake was really ok, all in all :D ! That’s the reason why even my wife ate half of it :) ! Today, nearly one week later, we are still alive and had no problems with stomach :) !

I have still one Pineapple Nut Cake DoP 1982 and one Fruitcake DoP 1984 :D , both without the outer cardboard! I will open them next time and show the photos here. I hope the condition is so good as of the Cherry Nut Cake :?: .
