my first mre

hello all. i first started thinking of mre s during all the hurricane nonsense. i am a dirt biker and all the tracks are far from facilities for eating. i searched around and found this site on another forum about ar 15s. i have been lurking round here waiting for the prices to drop on ebay. i buy lots of my bike parts there.

so the other day i actually bought some for $48 bucks for a b case. its crazy as i watched the progress on the ups website they got closer and closer. i knew today was the day and i was excited all day.

THEYRE HERE!! so i figured i would try one out. i picked the one i thought i would like the least, so as to save the good ones for the mx track. my choice, jambalaya.

i actually lived on a military base for a couple years. i wasnt in the army just my step dad was. so i know the way things work and i figured this thing would taste like poo. every movie about soldiers usually has at least 1 guy saying they hate the rations, right?

WOW i thought it tasted great! i got the funny looking bread with cheese spread and i ate the hell out of it. yum yum!! lemon poppy seed pound cake. double yum yum. i figured jambalaya would be like some crazy food i wouldnt eat from a five star joint, wow i want some more.

it surprised the hell out of me how quick the heater worked. jeesh it kinda puts out a chemical stink at first though. no way these things are gonna last till summer when its weekly races. i think i should get some more, he haw!!

do they make breakfast mres?

The Jambalay and the Veggie burger are the two entrees I have not even tasted yet. They don't sound too appetizing to me so I just never bothered. The pork rib was another one that I never ate, but decided to give it a try one night and actually really liked it. I may have to give the Jambalaya a try one day...again...MAY!

Glad you liked your first MRE, your MRE cherry has been popped...

Now you are an official MRE NUTJOB like the rest of us....

Hi h2o2gunr - welcome to the forums!

I thought the Jambalaya was pretty good, too. I wasn't crazy about the little pieces of shrimp in there, but with enough cheese and tobasco sauce added, it could have included rusty nails and I wouldn't have minded. :-)

As for breakfast MREs, the only one I've heard of is the Cheese Omlet MRE that's new for 2005. Other than that, you just have to eat one of the other regular MREs for breakfast. Me personally, I'm not usually that hungry for a big breakfast so I just stick with the crackers and peanut butter and coffee.
