Rancid Patato Sticks?

I had yesterday night at work some

After opening, I noticed a "rancid" smell. Not for the first time with potato sticks. I guess as they are fried in fat, they turn rancid after a "certain" time

I've noticed the same thing a couple of times with this particular snack item. At first I thought it was just a "canned" smell, but didn't think about the fried/rancid possibility until some time after. Makes sense though!

I wasn't aware they have this snack, but if I ever see one, I'll be cautious with it. Do you know which meal(s) it comes in?

These came with the 2003 #3 Beef Ravioli but got replaced in 2008.

I remember these things - I think these are produced on the normal civvie market too - not too special but still a nice variation from say pretzels or some similar dry salty carb snack.

I can't imagine many of these being still "fresh" by this point in any of the MRE's they were packed in. So tread carefully - rancid food is never fun.
