Potato and Cheddar Soup
This is one meal, or side dish, had me thinking: why didn’t they invent this earlier? I have to give Natick labs the credit for putting a soup unit in with a MRE. This is the first of its kind and let me tell you I was pretty surprised by it. I did the standard heating the bag and when opening it up I got the smell of cheddar and from the looks of it a thick stew. The soup was kind of small in portion size; not a whole lot there, and the potatoes were few but the taste was actually very good. It tasted a little grainy, but nonetheless very good considering this is probably made from a powder base. I would imagine having this on a cold stormy night coming home from the field or work. I could not even fathom having this cold out in the field. It would be just to horrible to down.

Housil,
Yes, it is true! Though I'm not sure which MRE has it. Could be a 2008 one, haven't seen this entree' in the 2007 ones. Very odd.

Is this the subtitute stuff for the rather odd clam chowder in the BBQ pork rib MRE?
I ordered some pork ribs online a few weeks ago hoping to score some of this soup as the MRE's I bought were supposed to be "latest freshest MRE's)
I got some 2007 ones......ok I guess thats also classed as fresh.

Mr. F
You know that very well could be the substitute for the very disgusting clam chowder. Though the 2007's didn't mention a soup on there menu list so that would just leave the 2008's. As for the 2007's: depending on where you got them from, that could very well be the freshest ones around. I know that's the best I can find around my area.

I found these on the epicenter and they say it's a 2009 production.
Sure enough:

I live in the uk, I mainly order from
http://www.armyrations.co.uk as its a great site and its one of the cheapest I have found.
Im guessing that the 2007 MRE's are the freshest that can be aqquired here in the uk atm, although I did just miss out on a small batch of 3 menu# 1 first strike rations
(Im finding it really hard to get hold of these atm

) But am I correct in thinking these were also available in 2007?.
Actually I am just awaiting another dozen or so MRE's being delivered by courier from the site, I will have to try get some review's of them up on the forums,
although I think most have been reviewed but I guess another personal take on the existing review can do no harm.
Ohh and btw I loved the BBQ pork Ribs, very nice taste almost with a smokey bacon flavour, but yeah the clam chowder was quite disgusting
even MRE cheese didn't help it at all.
I'll stay away from that one untill I find some of the later ones with the soup (which sounds great btw).

I actually had the clam chowder from the pork rib menu... I liked it... Not the best that there is, but quite edible.

Mr. F,
I would invite you to try to the epicenter website and see if they can ship to the UK, if so, try the cheddar/potato soup. They also have some of the components from the FSR's on there that you can sample.
