Buffalo Style Chicken entree

Post by MR.EMAN » Tue Jun 16, 2009 4:01 pm

Had this for lunch the other day, thought I'd share my thoughts.

Notice the 'Not for retail sale' First time I've seen this on the carton.

I was expecting this to be along the lines of chicken tenders in sauce, but this is more akin to the chicken version of the sloppy joe filling, in other words, meat scraps in sauce. The chicken itself had a dryness (despite all the sauce  ) , like being overdone. The sauce was well, Buffalo sauce. The two combined made for a pretty decent entree, if you like Buffalo chicken. You get chicken, and the 'Buffalo' flavor without the bones. Would definitely eat again.

Well hell Mr. Eman beat to the taste test once again. Oh well here's my take on this entree':

Buffalo Chicken
I got the buffalo chicken from The Epicenter. When I saw that they had this on their website I just couldn’t resist the temptation. I got this and the other entrée’s in record time as always. The entrée itself, I was under the impression it would be a chunk or chunks of chicken, what I saw was a pulled chicken (pulled pork version more like) and some orange sauce. I heated this up in the package in a pot of boiling water and when I opened it up it was kind of like looking at a stew with a Tabasco hot sauce aroma coming out. I sampled the chicken and the overall taste I would have likened this to say Buffalo wings you would get at a restaurant with a mild hot sauce. The sauce wasn’t overbearing or trying to overpower your taste buds but for me that’s all I tasted was the hot sauce: I could hardly taste the chicken. I did have some Mexican style corn and some fresh bread to round it out and give it some balance.

My overall impressions were that this is very good and a nice welcome edition to the MRE line, but I’d like to know what gets paired up with this in the menu, and I imagine having this cold would not be a disappointment. Though my main thought is why shredded chicken and not a breast or formed patty. My suggestion would be to have this on a WSB slab(s) and have it like a snack sandwich with less sauce. Another impression for me was when I ordered this I thought of the discussion we had on the MRE A-tray(s) of Buffalo Chicken and how good those turned out. In the pictures posted from Long Life Foods you saw whole chunks of chicken; well, that’s what I thought this was. Unfortunately I was mistaken but somewhat impressed with this entrée.

It's not really chicken. Taste like chicken, of course, but actually, it's the current Whitehouse inclusion for green quisine. It's actually Eastern Box Turtle(terrapin) meat. What do you think all that spicy camo sauce is for?
