Vegetable & Cheese Vomilet

Post by Big Galloot » Sat Dec 13, 2008 10:23 pm

There comes a time when a man has to stand up to his fears and do what a man has to do.

Unfortunately, what this man had to do was try a 2005 Sopakco Vegetable and Cheese Omelet.

This is a review that can fairly be summed up in a single word...

NASTY!!!!!

But, I had to suffer, and so must you! When I first encountered MREs, this was what I was afraid that they would be like.

When I separated the "omelet" from the retort pouch, I was amazed that the only odor was of green chilis. No egg, no cheese, just green chili.

The texture was somewhat egg and cheese like but only if one assumed that the cheese and egg had been extruded under pressure into the retort pouch. It was most unpleasant and totally unnatural.

The only flavor was a weird tomato-like flavor, although it should be pointed out that there were actual pieces of what appeared to be tomato, but that these had no tomato taste whatsoever. There was not a hint of anything that could be vaguely connected to a taste of egg or cheese.

I tried a small sample with Tabasco, but it could do little more than make the mess "edible."

In the end, I was able to complete the meal with a liberal application of something that is unfortunately not available to our military personnel, Bacon Salt! Yes, I wimped out and hid the flavor behind the goodness that is Bacon Salt. I deeply sympathize with our fighting men who have been exposed to this gastronomic equivalent of water boarding.

Nice review of what sounds like a terrible meal.

I also want to try an MRE omelet as well as CCC so I can say 'I've eaten that' :D
If the postage wasn't so high I'd ask one you the guys on here to send one over for me to test.

OK, stop with that horse s---. (Chef)Hector Boyardee invented it during WW2. It's been with us a long time. C-Rat/MCI Ham &Eggs, Chopped, early MRE omelet with ham, reborn as Cheese/Vege omelet. Most of you guys never stood in a mess hall breakfast line, and yelled out "COMBO" too the egg man.
After the Chicken and the Egg, came the "Omelet"!

I save the Vomelet and CCC meals for use in case of disaster. Best two meals to "share" with those who failed to prepare.....Vomelet and CCC entrees (I strip my MREs of the contents I want to keep)...this almost guarantees they will seek another source of sharing-leaving me to eat in peace.
