Penne Pasta w/Spicy Vegetable Sausage
Date Code: 7092
MFG: Menu C
Reviewer Rating: 3 [out of 5 stars]
Over All Opinion: Not bad, this meal has a nice sweet sausage flavor. The pasta was soft, but not mushy.
Sides:
- Short Bread Cookie: Nice, crisp and sweet, very good.
- Cheese filled pretzels: Basically combos, one of my favorite snacks. Bonus!
- BBQ Sauce: Leftover - what was this suppose to be used on?
- Cheese Spread: Leftover – no crackers so this ended up as an extra.
- Ranger Bar: I'm not a big fan of coconut but it was not bad.
- Meal also contained a Tootsie Roll.
Final Thoughts: This was the only Vegetarian dish in the case of Menu Cs. This is the second meal from this case I have opened and it's amazing how many snacks are in each meal. Whenever camping with friends I'll definitely pack Menu C meals for the snacks, there is something for everyone.

How would you compare the "Penne Pasta w/Spicy Vegetable Sausage" with the MRE-Star "Pasta w/Marinara Sauce and Veggie Crumbles" that you reviewed earlier? Basically the same except for the pasta shape and snacks?
You can pick your friends
and you can pick your nose
but you can't roll your friends into little green balls!

That's a good question, the two meals where very different in flavor.Big Galloot wrote:How would you compare the "Penne Pasta w/Spicy Vegetable Sausage" with the MRE-Star "Pasta w/Marinara Sauce and Veggie Crumbles" that you reviewed earlier? Ignoring the sides for a moment... The predominate flavor in this meal was sweet sausage (fennel spice). In "Pasta w/Marinara" the pasta was al dente, and the marinara sauce was strongly flavored with oregano (and to be honest had a Chef Boyardee like aftertaste).
Look both dishes are editable, but are lacking in meat.
As a wise man once said "yumm meat..." or was that donut...

Thanks for the review....it's a bit strange they'd toss Bar-B-Cue sauce in that meal....and leave crackers out after putting cheese in as well...sounds like they were stripping the warehouse of extras when they packed the meal.
Was this 06 production food as well?
I almost added a case of Menu Cs to my stash but after reading your postings, I'll stick to Menus A & B....I only wish I could find some current production...2008
