Post by mreheater72 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 2:49 pm

Hi guys,

a few days ago NORGE animates me to make a review of a good old darkbrown MRE :D .

viewtopic.php?t=1878

Today I decided to go in my basement and looking for the right one to do that:

MENU NO. 2
CORNED BEEF HASH
SO-PAK-CO, INC.
Image

After opening the MRE it turned out that it was packed 1989. The appearance of all packages was great :D.

Here are some pictures of the entrees:

I compared the entrees with menu list from mreinfo.com

http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/menus-vii ... -1989.html

and found some differences :?: :o :
FRUIT FREEZE DRIED here is APPLESAUCE
OATMEAL COOKIE BAR here is BROWNIES, CHOCOLATE COVERED

Tomorrow I will open all packages (norge, you can visit me if you like, I certainly need some competent advices, simply take an airplane and fly to NUREMBERG, the remaining way to "FICHTELGEBIRGE" you can take a train   ) :D , taste the contents if it is possible :?: :?: and show the whole procedure here the next days  !

I hope that at least some entrees are still edible :?: !

If we get you and norge in the same place trying out old rations, then we're definitely going to need Housil there, too, for his medical experience! :-)

Hi guys,

I opened all packages today in the afternoon:

Here are the photos with comments:

CORNED BEEF HASH and APPLESAUCE without cardboard
Image

COCOA BEVERAGE POWDER, still powdery, no clumping :)
Image

BEVERAGE BASE POWDER LEMON-LIME, still podery, no clumping :)
Image

All at one view
COCOA BEVERAGE POWDER and BEVERAGE BASE POWDER LEMON-LIME taste sweet and yummy as always :D
Image

CORNED BEEF HASH, perfect smell, good appearance :D , in spite of that I didn’t taste
Image

APPLESAUCE, perfect smell, perfect taste :D , the color might have been become a little bit darker than a “fresh” one. I ate it completely
Image

CRACKERS (not broken, perfect condition) and APPLE JELLY, perfect smell, perfect taste, no difference between some from 2007, yummy, ate it completely :D
Image

BROWNIES, CHOCOLATE COVERED perfect smell, perfect taste, I enjoyed it :D :D , in my opinion better than all present bars (ranger, chocolate sports bar, …). By far the best entree of the whole MRE :D :D
Image

Close-up of cutted BROWNIES, CHOCOLATE COVERED
Image

ACCESSORY PACKET A, all entrees were in best condition :D , the coffee, creamer and sugar I will take for breakfast tomorrow :D , CHICLETS were a little bit hard, but still tasty
Image

I’m really surprised of the very good condition of and 19 year old MRE :o :o :D :D . All entrees were still edible (although I didn’t eat the CORNED BEEF HASH)!! The appearance, smell and taste was great and I’m still alive :D . Housil, I think you can turn back :D !

Norge, I’m glad :D that I decided to taste a dark brown MRE, but there are waiting some more in my basement …

On the picture you posted the item besides the caramels is an oatmeal/granola bar???

If it is, it looks similar to the ones in the survival GP cans I'll be sending you.... :D
