this was recently sent to me as a free gift from dverkamp. i got several entrees and some apacks. here is a review of one of them.

entree was ok as it was. the sauce was a little too tangy. overall it was good. i added some tabasco, and a little blairs pepper powder which is very hot. and two vermouth spiked olives. that made this entree really good. really spicy but really good. the two kids one not eat any of it due to the smell. they got down and ran. since they were not eating i added the spices. thanks dverkamp.

I'm glad that you said that, we have all been getting a little worried about what you have been feeding those kids, it is good to know that they have a choice.

That being said, what was that smell?

Yes, that's a pretty good entree. A bit strong on the flavor side - would probably be really good with a side of rice thrown in there.

By the way, in case you couldn't tell from the close-up pic of the box, this is one of the new entrees produced by International Meal Supply, who makes the MREStar MREs - this is one of the six menus they current have.

the smell i was referring to galloot was the strong bbq smell that came out when i opened the microwave. they were sitting at the table ready to eat and man when i set it on the table they both took off running. it was sort of a vinegar smell.

Man that looks like a great tasting entree, yum yum.... But the vinegar smell kinda surprises me.
Too bad I can't smell it.

I love all entrees with BBQ sauce.
Like c-rats says: 'everything tastes better with Tabasco" BBQ sauce does the tric for me too. But since Tabasco is provided with a lot of MRE's I start to like it more and more.

Regards, Nawt.

I'm with you on that Nawt ---- I like the BBQ sauced entrees as well (anyone remember the old MRE entree Meatballs in BBQ Sauce? YUM-YUM!).

I find it curious that some people use their cats as Taste Testers, while others their kids. Biiiiiishhhhooooop! :?

Then of course there's Norge, The Man with the Cast Iron Stomach!

BBQ Sauce w\Chicken, Black Beans and Potatoes
Date Code: 8088
MFG: International Meals Supply
Reviewer Rating: 1 [out of 5 stars]

Over All Opinion: Not to bad, but not my favorite. The meal has plenty of flavor, but a little to much sauce (feels like a stew). This would be an ideal complement for a white rice side. Mitzy tried it and promptly handed it back, guess it's not to her tastes either. The chicken and potatos are firm, and have a great texture. The black beans are definitely un\under cooked. In the end, the last couple of bites where all BBQ sauce.

Sides: All of the MRE-STAR meals in this case are provided with the same sides: Nut-Mix, Dried Fruit, Orange Beverage Powder and Sugar Cookies. The Nut mix is very, very good, lots of sunflower seeds and raisins. The sugar cookies have a slight lemon-short bread flavor to them and are also very appetizing. The dried fruit is good, but the banana chips are pretty hard, still very editable.

Final Thoughts: I would eat this in an emergency, but would rather trade for something new to try :) Crackers or white rice would have given this meal a better review. I have noticed that none of the sides and snacks [from the MRE-STAR case I have] are stamped with date codes. This is worth mentioning as I see many people break up the meals and pick and choose what to eat.

Does it seem strange to anyone else that they call it "BBQ Sauce w\ Chicken" instead of "Chicken w/ BBQ Sauce"?

Is the BBQ sauce meant to be the star of the show?
