1991 Omelet Taste Test

Recently decided to try a 1991 omelet with ham. I opened the bag and all of the item's were in excellent shape, except for the plastic layer on the cheese spread. It looked like it was trying to peel away from the pack.

Opened the omelet and it smelled and looked just like the newer production ones. The au gratin potatoes on opening were very cheesy smelling. After heating the omelet tasted just like the new ones which I happen to like

The potatoes were okay. The hash browns that come with the newer production are way better. I do have to say the best part of the whole meal was the oatmeal block. Man I love those

A little hard to bite, but overall excellent. Not my favorite entree, but definitely worth eating

Nice pics! I always wondered what those early omelets looked like but so far, I've been too scared to crack one open. :-)

It's kind of freaky to see that the 1991 omelets don't appear any different than the 2006 omelets:

Yep, the late '80's Omelet with ham and the newer omelet with cheese and bell pepper parts are just about the same. I can't even taste the monterey cheese in the new ones. I've become distant, to the eggs, Kman. It's not because of billary, nor algor. I'm tired, and it's time to take them out(the eggs, I mean).

You guys are far braver than I when it comes to the MRE "omlett". It is by far the WORST MRE entree I've ever tried ---- and I used to really like the canned C-Ration Ham & Eggs back in the day (yum!). I couldn't choke down an MRE omlett even if I drowned it in Tabasco sauce.

Instead I now use the Mountain House pre-cooked, freeze-dried Bacon & Eggs and the Ham & Eggs pouches for my breakfast entrees. MH got it right with those two items!
