This menu wasn't bad, but was most definitely past it's best. The Ham and Chicken loaf was a lot like the Ham Slices MRE, nicely salty but basically reformed meat. The Beans with Tomato Sauce were classic baked beans and they were great paired together. I think this would be a favourite menu of mine fresh - I'm a bean fan!
The sweetness of the beans with the saltiness of the H&C loaf pair well together. In this case the H&C loaf tasted and smelt absolutely fine, there was a sour taste to the beans but they generally tasted ok to eat. I only finished about half of the mains for that reason though. I didn't want to try my luck too much!

The freeze dried Pears were unfortunately compromised. The vacuum seal was lost and they were slightly soft and sticky. They tasted ok and were quite edible - they hadn't turned that dark brown like with really bad FD fruit.

The Orange drink was a solid block. I used to chuck these away if they were a solid lump, but after a discussion with Readiness reviews I found out that they still mix up fine and have had no ill effects as long as there's no obvious mould or bad smell etc. As you can see in the pictures it mixed up and tasted absolutely fine!

I haven't had a 1987 MRE before - generally speaking I've had 1982 and then 90's, so the Candy Chocolate Bar was a first for me and I was quite excited to try it. The first bite initially tasted pretty good and it looked to be in fine shape but this had quite obviously gone rancid (as they do) and left a bad enough taste in my mouth that I didn't go back for seconds...as tempting as that was.
It washed down well with some Coffee Instant Type 1 and the rest of the components were fine.
Crackers and PB - almost always good. I've never had bad MRE crackers and the PB that I've had from MCI's has always been fine too despite some oil separation so I'm figuring the PB lasts forever!

All in all not a bad meal. 24 hours later and no ill effects so I likely could have finished that main. This one was produced the year before I was born so that was quite a cool experience too. Especially as a bean fan :) it felt like I was going back to my roots!
