Another day shopping locally...

Post by RGoodellSr » Sun Jan 26, 2020 5:04 pm

Made another visit to our local military supply store today (26 Jan 2020), and I think we did pretty well...

2017 US MRE Menu #12, Elbow Macaroni in Tomato Sauce

2016 US TOTM Menu #10, Vegetarian Taco Pasta
Review: Pending

2017 MajorSurplus.com, Southwest Style Beef and Black Beans with Sauce

Total investment: $20

I actually enjoy seeing what we can find locally. It's not incredibly diverse and we have to wait for them to open new cases, but it's a lot less expensive and sometimes we run into something we haven't seen before.

Would love to have something more exotic, but still pretty happy to have something to make new video reviews.

Update: We recently (14 Feb 2020) made another shopping trip, and produced a video of that experience, which you can see here: https://youtu.be/NB9BDD0QbgQ

I wish I didn't live in a shithole city that actually had stuff like this for sale.

Not a bad score! Most surplus stores around these parts ask about $10 per ration. I miss the days of occasionally finding good deals on eBay.

My local surplus hasn't had MREs for months, just ORPs
Check out my ORP menu spreadsheet: https://bit.ly/2NqUFRX | I have: | British 24HR Box Rations | French RCIRs | Type I EPA |Danish Rations

My local surplus store in the US has veggie MREs for $4 and meat MREs for $5. Didn't know other places charged so much
On an impossible mission to get every ration ever :D

Looking for Vintage, rare and just plain strange items

Our Military Store normally charges $10 for a full MRE ration. They only open a case or two at a time off the pallet, and after everyone picks out the new stuff they mark the remaining menus down to $6. The TOTM was the same story. Regular price for the commercial was $7 (no discount on that one.) I don't mind the odd menu or ration as long as it's something new to me. Sometimes I actually discover a surprise that I wouldn't mind having again sometime... That's part of what makes it fun.

Our outlet is about a 75 minute drive from home, so we try to include visits there with other appointments or business that way "as long as we're in-town."
