Great review and pics Hair-FIN! One interesting thing I noticed about this ration is that it had no candy or fruit or other dessert type stuff except for the nut raisin mix. I recall some older menu MREs being similar in that regard. But hey, I would take a nut raisin mix over an MCI orange nut roll or MRE cherry nut cake any day! And considering any surviving MCI orange nut roll or MRE cherry nut cake would probably be unsafe to eat now anyway----at least the nut-raisin mix has a few more years before it goes bad.

Interestingly, the plain-flavored cheese combos remind me alot of the MCI cheddar cheese spread like if you took two MCI crackers and made a sandwich of them with the cheese spread. Funny how certain tastes stick in your mind years and years later. Although guys that I served with told me that they think the combos taste more like the MRE cheese spread. I loved both cheese spreads but they definately did not taste alike.

Great review, and good photos.
How did BBQ sauce taste Sweet/ tangy or Spicy Hot with more pepper?

I tried the Beef patty between two slices of snack bread for cold lunch this spring.
Not bad. I did not know they were putting combos in the meals.
Again thanks for the review

As for the nut cake vs. nut raisin mix, I would gladly trade ANY modern MRE dessert for a nut cake! Those things tasted GREAT and I still can't believe they discontinued them.... I miss my maple, cherry and chocolate nut cakes!

What ARE these nut-cakes of which you speak so fondly... never seen one... from when?

They were basically a thicker than cake like treat with fruit & nuts and were REALLY good. I believe that 1993 was the last year they were included in the MRE's....

If you have ever consumed the British "Treacle pudding" dessert I would say that it is the same consistency as that MINUS the syrup.
