Over here on this side of the pond, we call those by the Greek name of "gyros". While they are commonly available in a number of places including shopping center food courts, to get real ones from a real Greek deli is truly a meal "to die for".

it looks same - but its not the same. gyros has spices on in - döner not (when it gets grilled). döner is always grilled on the stick like on the photo - gyros in the pan or on the grill.
and the döner is more practical - you can eat it "on the move"
but in the end: both foods are veeeeeeeery delicious

Hey guys, I remember something like that over in Kuwait. When I was there in 2004-05 I first got to Kuwait at Camp New Jersey and they had these semi trailers with doors on each side and some of the locals had a fast food deal set up like that. For two "gyros" and a small soda it was 3.00 USD but you had to get over there fast and order fast 'cause the line would fill up so quick and out the door. Man, two of those pocket sandwhiches would fill you up.
and it would exactly like the one inthe photo. Ah....those were the days

here in France, the döner are called either kebab or sandwich grec (no translation needed?) even by the Turks.
In Tunisia the local version (VERY spicy) was called shawarma.
Here in this lost part of Britany, it's a very exotic food and the price is not 4€ like in Paris but rather 6-7 euros
The difference between gyros and kebab/döner is not that the gyros may contain pork? According to its name the gyros should be made on a turning spit too, wrong?
