Chicken and Rice menu no 11, 1991. This one was a real score, all was very edible apart from the cheese - which was left to my sister to try as controversially I am not a fan of cheese! Even the Tabasco sauce was light and clear which is usually a good sign of how well the other contents has held up! Contents were;
Chicken and Rice
Crackers
Cheese Spread
M&M's (Plain)
Grape Beverage Base
Cookie, Chocolate Covered
Plus accessory pack, spoon, Tobasco. I have a preference for brown bag MRE's, I like the menu layouts and prefer the use of sugar rather than sweeteners, although I am partial to the Iced Tea that you find more commonly in the Tan bags

The grape beverage was fantastic, the old beverage bases mix up well and as far as I'm concerned have a much cleaner taste than the new versions with sweeteners etc - although I do still really like the modern Orange BB. Crackers were perfect, I've not yet had any bad MRE crackers, no matter how the rest of the contents has held up. The same can not be said for the B-Unit crackers I have tried! Tasters Choise, creamer and sugar were all fine. Cookie, chocolate covered was also great. I've experienced bad after tastes with some of these in the past, but this one was perfect and well paired with the coffee. M&M's also were brilliant - not a complete bag of sour dust! I can never get my head around how commercial candy sometimes stands the test of time so well! The main is one of my favourites (this and the Corned beef hash). No sour taste or numbness, this one was like new. Although soft I actually like the texture and flavour of the Chicken and Rice, although after getting a whiff of the cheese we decided to pair the crackers for the remaining half of the main! Makes me wish I'd taken more photos of some of the others I have eaten, especially the earlier 80's stuff. I'm hoping to find the time to post a few more reviews, so maybe I'll have a hunt through my old photos and see what else I can find also!
Cheers
Jim
