First look into the bag. No strange smells not even that typically brown bag smell.

Everything laid out still gotta open the accessories pack.

First look into the accessories pack. I smell tabasco that's not a good sign at all.

The tabasco turned out to be perfectly fine.

Now this is everything laid out.

Time to heat up the entrée and side.

While those are heating up I'll check everything else out. This is the worst Moldy Tasters choice I've ever seen in person or in any video reviews.

Now the coco beverage powder. No mocha for me this time but it's in perfect condition and I go ahead and add the creamer and sugar.

No for the best looking orange drink mix I've ever seen. I didn't expect it to look so good especially after the coffee and the storage conditions.

Ok this is a 1992 Omelet with ham menu 4. I was provided this mre by a really cool dude from California. He is a retired firefighter and goes by Firemanfood1988. He told me that they weren't stored in the best conditions so I was a bit apprehensive and took my time with this one.

Alright onto the review. First things first I opened it up and no strange smells not even that old smell that brown bags have usually. I took that as a good sign. Laid it all out and opened the accessories pack. When I opened it up I smelled tabasco so I figured it leaked out but nope it was all good. The Mars bar felt like one of the Dutch hot chocolate mixs. It felt like a tightly packed powder and had a soft texted when I squeezed it. After laying everything out I dropped the mains in the boiling water for about 10 minutes. Came back to mix the drinks and the coffee was roached bad with mold. So no Army mocha this time. So I went ahead and put the creamer and sugar in with the hot chocolate. Then added 7 ozs of boiling water to it. Next up was the orange drink mix. I opened it up and it look absolutely perfect. I think the best I've ever seen in person or in a video review.

Ok time to start the taste test. I wanted to start with the Omelet obviously. As I said before I want to approach this with caution. So I took my first bite and it tasted like eggs, salty ham, with a buttery hint of aftertaste. I thought after the first bite it was ok so I took a second big spoon full of a bite. I chewed on it for about 5 seconds and it was weird because my tongue started to feel strange and numb on the right side. I decided not to press my luck and not swallow the second bite. Then I tried the cheesy potatoes as we call them here in WV. The wasn't to bad still nice and cheesy, the texture was spot on what it should have been not to soft but not hard either just right. The cheese sauce was pretty strong cheddar cheese flavored, kinda milky too. Overall not to bad considering.

Ok now onto the side items. The coco beverage powder was just awesome, creamy, chocolatey, milky especially with the added cream and sugar. Just a classic American stand-by for a breakfast ration especially. After that I moved on to the oatmeal cookie bar. This was hands down the star of the show. It was the best compressed bar I've ever had. I bit in it wasn't to hard and not soft either. Had a nutty, oat, grainy sugar, with hints of cinnamon and butter. Most of the time when I've tried any of the bars they leave a coating on the inside of my mouth like from greese or fat but this one did not. It was perfect in my opnion. Then onto another bad item. I had forgotten about the cheese spread. So I opened it up and it didn't knock me down with an awful smell or anything but it didn't smell good either. In appearance it looked almost exactly like the omelet it was kinda pink, brown color and dry looking. I couldn't go any further with the cheese. Next up to try was the Orange drink mix and when I opened it up the powder looked amazing a nice vibrant orange color. It had a nice citrus, orange tang flavor but a bit sweeter, the only odd thing was a old bag after taste but overall it was pretty good. Then I tried out the gum which I never do and to my surprise it was nice and soft. I swear it was 10x better than modern mre gum that falls apart after one minute chewing it.

Finally the crackers. I saved them for a snack the next day. I had some peanut butter from a 2014 imp and some mre blackberry jam to eat on them. So when I ripped them open I got a nice rush of air into the package the patented "Nice Hiss" so I knew they should be pretty good. I tried them on their own first and they wasn't salted of course but had that strong malted barley, and flour taste. Much bettet than the modern crackers but still nice and dry. So I added the PB&J and boom sn awesome snack to finish up the 1992 omelet with ham review. Hope ya'll enjoyed reading this one. Let me know and I'll write more in the future.

Ah, the combination knife-sharpener/oatmeal bar! Those were pretty good. Need a tall glass of cold Milk for that one!

The eggs were always tough, in more ways than one. They don't lend themselves to the retort process. Heck, most people can't cook them right in real life fresh. They were not a popular menu item generally speaking. Make your mouth go numb? Yep, they did that then too. I'm sure they are fine, lol.

In my time in the .mil, rations were handed out or picked randomly or lottery style - there was no choosing as such. This was considered the fairest way, as some were considered inedible or nearly so. The eggs w/omelet is one of those. One thing to keep in mind with vintage rations - if they've survived this long, one reason is sometimes because they tasted like ass at the time. The better ones got et, generally speaking, and consequently don't show up as often. Omelet needed some Hot Sauce. A lot of guys would mix in a cheese spread with the omelet. It was filling at least. Sometimes the less than desirable meals had some goodies that other meals didn't have. The cheese spread will start to get a little gnarly eventually. It won't hurt you - but it is not very palatable. A "fresh" cheese spread is remarkably good. The Jalepeno and Bacon versions are out-f!?@ing-standing.

Unfortunately the beverages have declined in quality over the years, or certainly variable. The cherry beverage base was nectar of the Gods at one time, ya needed about 5 of them to make a large drink, but it was good stuff. Eventually they got to the point they would barely even dissolve in water and taste terrible.
The sugar free versions taste better, but of course have no nutrional food value. I'm not sure what they're thinking there, jeeze louise! The Cocoa powder underwent a similar decline - always a little heavy on the creamer from the contractor, it was pretty good stuff though, if doubled up and a coffee or two thrown in.

Saved these for the snack the next night. I had a 2014 imp peanut butter and a 2015 mre blackberry jam.

It's great to hear from the fellas who had to eat these things when they were fresh.

P.S. I really like the cherry drink mix but it seems like one packs enough for half a canteen cup full or I guess 2 would fill the canteen. But definitely a nice strong artificial cherry flavor.

I think all the time is a good time for an oatmeal cookie bar. I wish they'd bring them back. Heck any of the bars like thosev would be great to see again.
